You're probably not allowed to register players outside of the transfer window - so whether he's attached to a club or not may not be the issue.RNTGOONER wrote:if he is not signed bya club, it is not a transfer so i think he can sign for any team that wants him.kingjayson1 wrote:Is there a transfer deadline for free transfers? In fact, didn't we have Campbell training for us for some time until he finally registered with us in the January window? - if so, that surely answers that question!

The difference was Campbell was still officially registered with Notts County where as Pires is without any contract so if we were going to sign him up we could have and would have done it by now i thinkg88ner wrote:You're probably not allowed to register players outside of the transfer window - so whether he's attached to a club or not may not be the issue.RNTGOONER wrote:if he is not signed bya club, it is not a transfer so i think he can sign for any team that wants him.kingjayson1 wrote:Is there a transfer deadline for free transfers? Great to see him back, one of my favorite players of all time, does anybody know a link of video footage where the players pay homage to him when he lifts the trophy in 2002???
i never get tired looking at this goal, take a bow son!

The real difference is, Campbell left of his own accord, where as Pires was virtually snubbed by Wenger and had to leave.
To take Pires back now would require Wenger to admit that he still had something to give even in his late 30's, despite not being worth a 2 year contract 5 years ago.
This would mean Wenger admitting that he made a mistake, something that this arrogant detestable fool of a man will never ever do. No matter how big his mistakes are.

Good point! We would have signed him by now. He's fit and ready to play.goonersid wrote:The real difference is, Campbell left of his own accord, where as Pires was virtually snubbed by Wenger and had to leave.

My favorite Bobby moment was his goal away at Anfield during the invincible season, which was followed up by a passionate team celebration (don't happen much these days). For me, that goal and the sheer quality and importance of it cemented his Arsenal Legend status.Dazk1981 wrote:Great to see him back, one of my favorite players of all time, does anybody know a link of video footage where the players pay homage to him when he lifts the trophy in 2002???

I know we have too many average players at the moment and a lot of them have no heart or guts but suggesting we re-sign bob pires doesnt seem like a forward step for me
He doesnt fix any of our trouble area's so what would be the point ? Saying that I was against the signing of sol last season and am honest enough to admit I was wrong there although again I will say that we were short in that area at the time/still

Agreed. I'd look to employ Bob in a coaching or advisory role - maybe teach the current muppets how to pass and move at pace and how to score goals. But at his age I doubt he'd be up to the rigours of the PL on a regular basis in the role he was best at.augie wrote:I know we have too many average players at the moment and a lot of them have no heart or guts but suggesting we re-sign bob pires doesnt seem like a forward step for meHe doesnt fix any of our trouble area's so what would be the point ?
