What does age have to do with it if he has the talent?AFCWozza wrote:Im not using Miquel, or Bartley as JUSTIFICATION for not signing Jones, what i am saying is that there would be no point in signing Jones because we dont have 2 world class center backs for him to learn from, we dont even have 2 experienced center backs for him to learn from. We need to be signing players of the quality of Vidic, Ferdinand, Terry, Kompany. Then when we do have 2 world class center backs, then think about spending crazy money on a 19 year old1989 wrote:This I agree with you on.AFCWozza wrote:Give it a minute, read what i am writing.Gunnersaurus wrote:Squillaci is experienced.
Your point has more holes than a tea bag.
I would rather spend the money from a transfer for Phil Jones on a player in the mould of Vidic or Ferdinand.
But the talk about Miquel etc being justification for not signing someone like Phil Jones is just embarrassing.
Who was our best player last year and how old is he? How much would he be worth?

Fergie is building his next team, De Gea, Smalling and Jones will be the foundation that sees them through the decade, he will bring them in gently and the switch will be effortless, it is a far contrast from Wengers 'throw them all in the deep end at the same time and see who sinks and who swims then do it all again a few years later with a different bunch'

And here we have his excuse for the rest of next season. 'I tried to sign a player but he wanted to go elsewhere.'
If he's prepared to spend this money on a 19 year from Blackburn, it makes you wonder why he hasn't spent it before on better quality, proven talent. It sort of looks like desperation, bung a few quid on a youngster and he can then say 'look I've spent decent money'.
I know it's only June, but no headline or even medium sized signing is coming this summer. We just don't have the clout any more. Manure, Scousers and City are all more likely to get decent playtes and that's before Chavsea even get going. If a player comes to Arsenal, it means he's too shit for the other teams. We are the new spuds in the transfer market.

Sums up my thoughts exactly. I know it's still relatively early in the transfer season (well, maybe half way considering July is the start of pre-season/training) but is this what we're really going to be like? Are we going to sign a couple French prospects while other teams around us splash a little more for proven players, particularly those with top league experience?Irish Gooner wrote:
I would not be able to stomach it if we go into next season with a defensive roster of GC22, BS3, EE27, TV5, LK6, SS18, DJ20.
Bothered! Sorry, but he doesn't exactly light up the league for me. Bang average player. Fans wanna buy everyone just cause 'they've' bought him. Swear if manure bought Oxlade Chamberlain everyone on here would be going 'planning for the future' 'saw him against united, better than walcott', but there's a thread on here saying how 16 mill is a MAD price for a very probable future england winger...I do want some movement please though Arsene! Oh and it means fuck all about Samba, he can still 100% be off if we bid! Cahill for me though anyday.

This is exactly what will happen all summer, and we'll end up with a couple of second rate French or foreign players. These will not be up for or have the fright, strength or endurance to last a whole season.Perryashburtongroves wrote:And here we have his excuse for the rest of next season. Still If Wenger, Gills and Rice know so much, but they come out probably with the same old ' we will have his excuse for the rest of next season'. 'I tried to ex. number of players but they wanted to go elsewhere or we won't pay over the odds for English Players.' This I think is a problem, as we definitely require 1/2 English types players for the team.
