As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I will eat my own bollocks if that happens !!!
He's no elite olympian or sporting God....don't forget he let his country down and imo is just on a long list of goodish players who have believed the exageratted hype in our 'need' for a hero !!
What about Redgrave, Pinsent, Wiggens, Coe, Ainslie etc etc...
Saddest part is that some people will think this is a great idea.....
I take your point about Beckham, mate - but what the fuck has Ainslie done but cook a few dinners?

He's got that feel good factor about him , a cheeky grin and a booming laugh just makes you glow....
Same as Kriss Akabusi....just think what a happy place the stadium would be if they turned up ??

The main thing that stood out for me about Team GB tonight, and it's the same with Arsenal, is the perception (or lack of) where the ball will be played next & where the available space is. I don't proclaim to be an expert, and maybe it's easier to perceive with the view that the TV cameras give you, but I find myself yelling at the TV every time a player passes to a team mate & then stands still. "10 yards in front of you to the left! Do you not see those acres of space there?!" Fucking hell. Pass & move, pass & move, is it really that hard?!
Also, how bad was the atmosphere?! Fucking hell, there's a lack of songs to sing when England are playing but what the hell are the crowd supposed to sing when you've got players from 3 countries all playing for the same team?!
What is wrong with your guys?
Everybody nows that Olympic football tournaments are a different style then World or other cups. And that it is total different then league or european league games!
So far I've seen interesting games...Brazil yesterday leading 3:0 and then finishing 3:2...Britian (yeah...it is different ) had a good game against Senegal but African teams are strong in the Olympics.
I don't understand your high nose approach towards the games, never mind.
Cheers,

A golfer on TV last week, think it was Westwood ,said he wasn't sure about golf in the Olympics because the Majors are always going to be far more important to golfers. I think the same is true for football, the Olympics is suppose to be the cream of sports stars competing in one event in one city. So how can they say the football in the Olympics fall into that category ? The GB team last night does not represent the best footballers in Britain. The under 23 rule ,along with apathy, is responsible for that.
Boxing may not have the biggest names in the Olympics but Olympic boxing is a different sport. Almost every other sport has the top sportspeople trying to win Gold. Until that can be said for football then I don't think football has a place in the games.

Thomas one thing you will learn about Brits is we/they arent happy unless they are moaning. We all do it if the weather is shit we moan for the last week its been beautiful and hot and ive heard the same people who were moaning about rain saying its too hot. Ive heard nothing but moaning about the Olympics coming to London but if we had lost out to Paris in 2005 there would be moans that we are always overlooked by major sporting events If there were an Olympic event for moaning the Brits would be a definate for Gold. I dont know if other nationalities are the same but i dont think so, so get used to it if youre mixing with Brits often

Hi Flash,
good explenation
I've watched today GB ladys team in handball (German TV has streams from most of the competitions...which is great..you can swicht around)...that was the olympic spirit.
So I think we really should appreciate the effort everybody is givinng.
The Taffs are representing GB. The Queen is their monarch. If they don't want to sing the GB National Anthem they should F*ck off. If I were Pearce I'd drop them.

Why the fuck should Welsh players sing the anthem that is synonymous with England's sports teams? It is the British national anthem, yes, but for most Scots and Welsh people it represents the all too familiar conflation and dominance of England and GB/UK. Although I consider myself to be Welsh AND British that is not my anthem, almost the only context I hear it in is before an England sporting match and it evokes absolutely no positive emotion in me.
Half the England players don't sing the anthem before their games so I don't see it as being a huge issue. I have absolutely no problem with Welsh players playing for GB, as I've said before I'm not in the "Welsh not British" mob. What does piss me off is that cock Ryan Giggs being so proud to represent GB when he went 9 years without playing a friendly for his country.

My view of Olympic football changed the other night watching the ladies beat brazil. Sure women's football is pretty dire but that win at Wembley would have been by far the biggest crowd those ladies had ever played in front of. That was the pinnacle of their sport and if it means we have to endure Stuart Pearce's rag tag mob (although Ramsey is looking decent ) then so be it.
