GB Team - Football

Post by Macca »

The news of Beckham not being in the GB squad is GOOD news...the idea of this over rated wannabe Lord/GOD representing GB made me grimace...Why should he ? Just because he was there when the Olympic decision was made? He plays in the Disney land/retirement league and some people are up in arms/shocked/feel he has the right to a place? :banghead:
Well done Psycho for picking players for football reasons.
Some of the comments I've read are unbelievable....

Jonny Christmas on Twitter: "Beckham not in the GB Squad so I'm putting my tickets up for sale. Doubt anyone will be interested in them now though!"
Timmy Magnus on Twitter: "Absolute disgrace to leave Beckham out of the Olympic squad, he is the best commercial asset to the games!"
Seamus Bannon on Twitter: "I'm burning my Olympic tickets in response to the news that David Beckham is not in the squad. Ridiculous Pearce, ridiculous"
Calum Hill on Twitter: "No Beckham in the squad means thousands of fans... including myself won't watch the Olympics ‪#wreckedmysummer"
Sarah Donnelly on Twitter: "For all Beckham has done for GB in getting the Olympics and giving it a high profile the least they could do is let him go!"
Rich Ruston on Twitter: "It will be an absolute travesty if Beckham doesn't go to the Olympics, besides anything else I've his name on my Team GB shirt"
Andy Morrison on Twitter: "The amount Beckham has done for English football, he deserves his place in Team GB, especially as he's still got it"

Wonder if there is more to his exclusion than meets the eye?

Rather see him in there than Bellamy though.

Football really has attracted some plums. It was getting unbearable toward the end of his playing days with England when thousands of morons with no interest in the game would rock up to Wembley just to shriek at him warming up.

Does my head in :banghead:

Beckham needs sending to the knacker's yard as he's spent twice over.

Pearce is a shit coach but he at least has seen through the politician's-arse-kissing, fame-hungry, me-me-me 'brand' that is Dave Beckham. Football shouldn't be an Olympic event but to have had Beckham there (and his entourage) would have been a piss-take too far.

Walking around the Home Depot Stadium once a month (or whenever you can be arsed to actually play) and being English are not enough reasons for his inclusion.

Beckham/Pearce.....kind of irrelevant. Former, great ambassador for olympics and, maybe, case for inclusion as gratitude/send off. Latter...complete prick.

surely the intenion is to win a gold medal, otherwise whats the point, as such why would beckham be picked, there are infinete overage plyers who would contribute more to the goal of winning gold, than semi retired beckham. this country is 95% dickheads.

why give him a place even as a sop for him supposedly helping win the olympics? pathetic idea.

On merit, Beckham should never be in the squad. To be honest neither should Giggs really, the squad is going to be desperately short on strikers and keepers so two of the picks should have been Fletcher and possibly Robinson for me, people ridiculing Richards being picked are clueless given that he plays for the PL champions and most of the players at the tournament will be nobodys. And the squad should be picked on merit bearing in mind that if "Team GB" turn the farce that is 'Olympics football' into a circus by picking Beckham and then a club loses a key player from an injury in this mickey mouse competition for a long period and to compound things receive no compensation from FIFA as it's not on their calendar.

It is difficult to have sympathy for somebody who went to USA 5 years ago and chose fame and money (as if he didn't have enough already) over top level football, but I do think Pearce was wrong to string him along for so long. Pearce is an absolute mug and has absolutely no man-management skills whatsoever, he's on par with Doddsy in Mike Bassett bar the likeability.

Either way I hope Team GB go out in the first round, football at the Olympics makes me sick.
