F.A. Cup Final

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Wigan ,Birmingham City, Swansea, the Spuds, Portsmouth

How can we compete for trophies with those heavyweights of the modern game?

Yes and "be careful what you wish for".....you don't want to end up like Portsmouth now do you?

So won 4

lost 5
George Grahams record in cup finals 4 wins out of 5 (80%)
Yes, sadly Graham's reign is always overlooked and airbrushed from our history by Wenger fans and because of their strange love-in they have with him.
Just to add to this conversation...

Arsenal have never lost more than three consecutive finals, but if AW lost us our next final (unlikely though it is that he'd actually get us to one again), it'd be the worst cup final streak in the club's history.

2006: lost CL Final to Barcelona
2007: lost League Cup Final to Chelsea
2011: lost League Cup Final to Birmingham City

Pretty sure that no other manager has ever lost three finals with us, let alone in succession.

Terry Neil lost 3/4

1978 - FA CUP - 1-0 IPSWICH
1980 - FA CUP 1-0 WEST HAM
1980 - CUP W CUP - VALENCIA (PENS)

but did manage the 3-2 v Mancs in 1979.

Delighted for Wigan. Love the magic of the FA cup especially when the underdog turns over the big club. Double especially when that big club essentially bought the title last year and are a bunch of mercenary crunts. Fuck them. :D

Also, this win really puts paid to Arsene's bleating about "not competing on an even financial footing".

Arsene, old chap, have a look at what Martinez did there. He employed a thing called "tactics". He played to his players' strengths. He didn't try and wedge his players into a pointless purist system that few of them are equipped to play.

You dig? :rubchin:

Basic stuff really. :|

Yep, the domestic cups were won by Wigan and Swansea. No excuses left anymore.

To be fair the zipper didn't make it easy for him, it was very solid and kept its shape well, while the pocket defended deep and showed great determination.
