Re: Fabianski - Leaving
There was a tangible benefit to playing Wright though - although sadly he never worked out at Arsenal he was certainly seen as a viable alternative to Seaman and he certainly needed some game time to be kept content and hungry - not to mention sharp given Seaman's increasing injury occurrence in his later years.
Wenger trusts Fabianski so little that Szczesny basically had to play appallingly for over a year and fuck around like it was a parks game until Wenger dropped him - and even then he was brought back into the fold pretty sharpish. Szczesny hasn't really shown a particularly liability to injury, doesn't need to rest, is on great form and certainly won't appreciate being left out of big games for a keeper who has already said he's going in three months so hardly needs to be placated.
Fabianski did do okay yesterday - most of his saves were extremely regulation but the save with his feet from Suarez was a good one and he did very well diving at Sturridge's feet. But he still came flapping towards the end and if Agger hadn't essentially missed an open goal with his header we would (and should) be talking about how he cost us a place in the next round. Let's not forget just what a powderpuff keeper he is, he's let us down time and time again off crosses, still dealt with them like a clown when he came in end of last season, should have cost us yesterday and will cost us if we carry on playing him.
These cup games are the biggest games of our season. Do not play him.

I didnt agree with picking him yesterday and he came in and did a good job but I still wouldnt pick him in the next round - when we were winning trophies regularly we could afford to be blaise about it and allow the guy to keep his place but modern day Arsenal needs to break this trophy famine and fast. Maybe chesney could come in and make a fcuk up the next day that would cost us, but the bottom line is that we are 2 steps away from a cup final and it is the only viable trophy that we have a realistic chance of winning
Re: Fabianski - Leaving
Exactly.
The team that wins the PL is a team with a great strikeforce. You will NEVER see a team win it with just one recognised striker of no better than average ability. That's the main reason why 4th place (at best) beckons. We could just get lucky in the FA cup.

I have always been baffled by resting keepers for cup games but it seems everybody's at it. Look at Liverpool, they rested Mignolet despite the FA Cup being a big target left for their season, or so you'd think. I guess it's a way to try and keep the benchwarmer keepers happy by promising them a game in the cup. Not a fan though, although it worked out for us yesterday.

Prior to the game in scouseland, any of the victims fans that I knew all maintained that getting 4th place was a priority for them and they would have sacrificed the cup to do so. Part of that is because I think that they fear that the cannibal will be off in the summer if they don't get champs league, but I think that the main reason is that they want to get that 4th spot ahead of their manure friends

True but it's not as if they've had a gruelling European campaign to deal with, if playing in the FA Cup and the League is too much to handle they might as well not bother qualifying for Europe.augie wrote:LDB wrote:I have always been baffled by resting keepers for cup games but it seems everybody's at it. Im assuming that Flappy transfer fee will have gone up a fair bit after that performance- which could I guess have been another reason to play him.
Do hope that he isnt played against Everton, and isnt Viviano on loan just for this season anyway

fair play to Flappy for turning down a new contract,i must say this past year when hes had to come in hes been pretty damn good and could easily justify being our No 1.its a shame that it took him so long to come good,we could do with him next season especially if sir chez gets a serious injury.i feel a little more confident these days when he keeping our sticks for sure

Had forgotten how fucking shite this useless *word censored* is, anyone see him almost punch the ball into his own net last night, only to give away a corner that led to Oirlenad's equaliser. How many times were we forced to endure this useless fucker costing us goals.
If Sunderland end up in a must win game at the end of the season then they are as good as relegated.

His kicking last night was absolutely woeful - he found "touch" more times last night in the Aviva, than johnny sexton did in the entire 6 nations
I was actually at that game last night - our club has 68 kids registered through the various team and when we offered to bring them to the game all bar 4 decided to go
Also have to say that to all intensive purposes last nights game may have been played in Poland - no exaggeration to say that at least 60% of the crowd were polish and, even though there are loads of polish in Ireland, that shocked the bejesus out of me
Have to say though, that they created a great atmosphere last night and sang almost the entire game although most were well drunk

If Sunderland end up in a must win game at the end of the season then they are as good as relegated....Actually thought he was fouled in giving away that corner.. Paddy Mulligan on Ireland AM said this morning Poland had three goalkeepers in their squad and all three (Fabanski, Boruc and Szczesney) have a big mistake in them.
