LEAGUE CUP THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Since when was Coquelin a lb?
Seems he is being used as one tonight though.
I cannot remember him ever having been played there before for us, though he was used as a left sided midfielder whilst on loan last season.

Arsenal v Southampton teams confirmed:

Posted by: arseblog

Arsenal: Ospina, Bellerin, Chambers, Hayden, Coquelin, Rosicky, Diaby, Wilshere, Alexis, Campbell, Podolski

Subs: Martinez, Ajayi, Gibbs, Mertesacker, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla, Akpom

Southampton: Forster, Clyne, Fonte, Gardos, Targett, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, S. Davis, Tadić, Mané, Pellè.

Subs: K. Davis (GK), Long, Cork, Bertrand, Mayuka, Reed, McCarthy.

Played LB Fulham away in 2011/12.

Looks like Campbell is playing upfront tonight.

Yeah saw that, feel for him, remember him getting hung out to dry at Stoke as a RB.

That is our current RB and only CB cover.

Absolute madness.
As much as I would like to agree with you... If we played the BFG and he got crocked we would all be jumping up and down because we would have no CB's left, whereas if Chambers got crocked we would still have Bellerin.
Thanks Arsene for another brilliant summer... seriously top heavy squad, and I fear we will get found out sooner rather than later. :banghead: :banghead:

I agree, Coquelin is best deployed a defensive midfielder, tonight's selection of him on the left worries me.
Although he did play well for us at right back in the 6-1 over Blackburn, but we were hardly troubled that day.

Thanks 1989, was not aware he had played left back before for us.

I also have fond memories of listening to FiveLive, he might not be the most popular but Alan Green always created an atmosphere with his commentary, plus always seemed to describe Spurs as "just awful" too

It's probably a similar concept as a wired games console pad to kids these days though!

Fancy a win tonight but the line up really does expose our lack of strength in depth, although it is good to see the likes of Hayden get a chance. Anymore injuries however and we will be wafer thin in the league and CL.

2-1 to us :barscarf: COYG!

I'm sure there's plenty on here who remember Jonathan Pearce on Capital Gold when he used to do the commentary.

I used to love listening to him and Tony Wotsisname. JP was imo the best radio commentator ever :)

You need to wait until it kicks off to find a good stream.

Cannot believe that he is starting chambers and sanchez   As seriously as some of you want to take the domestic cups, I cannot believe that any of ye would prefer playing chambers tonight and risking having to play bellerin against the scum at the weekend

What a fucking goal from Alexis! When was the last time Arsenal scored a goal like this from a set piece? I can't remember.
