Nasri's injury got me to thinking of a massive player for us who never really got the recognition he deserved......BRIAN TALBOT.
In the epic but ultimately earth shatteringly disappointing 1980 season he played in every single one of our 70 games. SEVENTY games where tackles flew in, pitches were awful and he was a hard tackling, non-stop 90 mins midfielder.
A bit of research shows he missed only 5 games in the next five seasons as well.
Scored 49 goals from 327 apps too, not many midfielders anywhere have that return.
Amazing.
MOST UNDERRATED ARSENAL PLAYER IN OUR HISTORY
Well TBH Jens did make a fair few mistakes in his time with us, I remember I think against PSV in 2005 he made a clearance on the edge of the box and either punched or headed the ball to one of the opposition, which resulted in said player scoring from a ridiculous distance. I think that day it resulted in a draw because of that error. That was just one of them. I do agree with your statement thought, I love Jens and he will always be a legend.Bring Back Pires wrote:I think Jens Lehmann is often under-rated. He's more remembered for his crazy antics, and people forget just what a world-class talent he was.
He didn't lose a single league game in his first season, won us the FA Cup the next, and then set the CL record for most consecutive clean sheets the next.
And then dropped for two errors. Another huge AW mistake. Just think, we could've stuck with Lehmann up until this past May.
