I'm no Englishman, but surely some of those English pundits understand that England aren't among the top 5 national teams in Europe?

If all the English players keep staying in England, they will not learn anything about other football cultures and therefore not get to higher levels of the game. You have to experience in different places, or you won't get this sort of education.
