THE ARSENAL TRADITIONS
Re: THE ARSENAL TRADITIONS
I personally like seeing all the team playing in the long sleeve shirts. I like Flamini but to cut up the shirt at all is disrespectful to the club whatever his reasons. Noticed it during the game and it looked shit. It is a small issue but surely he should simply toe the line and follow his captain.
Re: THE ARSENAL TRADITIONS
I see the Flamini haters are out in force. They never wanted him back but they cant have a go at his performances on the pitch because he has been excellent this season. So they have a go over a stupid thing as sleeves.Grow up and move on

As an old stager donaldo, I would have expected more from you with regards to clubs long standing traditions - I suspect that had it been diaby or greedybayor (a few years ago) showing that same disrespect your stance might change

I am not saying that our age old traditions are vital to the club going forward and winning trophies, but it is traditions like this that made our club stand out from the rest and they mean something for me. Too many players nowadays, waltz into a club (any club) without any regard for it or it's traditions and I am sick of it - these players play for our club and get a kings bloody ransom for doing so, so the very least that they should do is respect the club values and I would stake my life that had flamoney done that whilst TA6 was skipper, the mercenary c*nt would have had his balls strung up on London bridge

Many of you will remember the story of jay bothroyd back when he played for our youths team - this was a guy that was thrown out of our club cos he disrespected the club by throwing his shirt on the ground when subbed, but yet it is ok for a mercenary french player to take a scissors to our shirt and desecrate the shirt ? Fcuk that

Re: THE ARSENAL TRADITIONS
Silly non-issue this bit. Big result for us yesterday and this was all the rags could publish this morn. We must be on the brink of plunging into another made up crisis, eh?
As for traditions, we cast those aside long time ago. Last big one being when we sold our captain and best player to the mancfilth literally enabling them to win the title at a canter last season.
Bloody farce.

Re: THE ARSENAL TRADITIONS
It SHOULD be a non-issue, agreed. But it actually WOULD be a non-issue if he just rolled his sleeves up like a normal person instead of being big time and cutting them off.
Re: THE ARSENAL TRADITIONS
to do it once is bad enough especially when you get a bollocking but to do it again is something I dont understand,to win most of us back over was a triumph by flamster but this disrespect to the club is pissing me off,to say it doesn't matter is plain stupid, players should do as they are told weather its wearing matching shirts or no shagging before a match, rules is rules,i don't understand where flamini thinks he is heading with this, maybe a long spell on the bench?.this is undoing all the good work hes put in second time around and just proves him to be the tool that a few of the people here said he was,i hope he sorts this out the bloody eejit

Re: THE ARSENAL TRADITIONS
you know what- I'm all for keeping traditions alive and instilling discipline but I find this story fucking hilarious
he's the sort of mental case we've been missing from the side, one of the first names on the teamsheet and I don't care if he is a mercenary if he keeps his performances us this season

Re: THE ARSENAL TRADITIONS
winter's here and clearly the BFG feels the cold and who knows, maybe Arteta does too. So Flamini had better learn how to roll up sleeves fast & hide the scissors.
Don't suppose he could have a go at Wenger's coat while he's at it?
It did look cr*p though, stupid thing to do

Agreed. Not a big deal - us winning was the newsworthy story of the day, but people do love a reason to get annoyed.donaldo wrote:I see the Flamini haters are out in force. They never wanted him back but they cant have a go at his performances on the pitch because he has been excellent this season. So they have a go over a stupid thing as sleeves.Grow up and move on
That said, I don't approve.
I think he needs quietly taking aside by the boss and told to roll them up next time. Job done. No drama. I doubt he intended to cause a fuss or knew it would offend anyone

Re: THE ARSENAL TRADITIONS
The first time this issue surfaced with Flamini was at Old Trafford, after the game Vic Akers did make a reasonable point that the shirt was devalued as it was been auctioned off for the military charity.
Being flippant here but solve the issue by making Flamini captain.

Re: THE ARSENAL TRADITIONS
The point about the sleeves is that it helps set the tone. It shows respect for your captain, your manager, your fans and your club's traditions. Basically what Flamoney has done is say "Fuck all of you, I'm a star, I'm bigger than the club and I'll do what I want." That's not acceptable to me.
Donaldo - I rate Flamoney as a useful addition to the team, but I think he is a money grabbing mercenary bastard. But then most modern footballers are to some extent. I can accept THAT part of it (even though I hate most of them!) if they deliver for us on the pitch. But I also think they should respect the club and it's traditions.

Re: THE ARSENAL TRADITIONS
Personally couldn't give a toss about this non-story! He's not a mercenary, we (like with so many other players that have left due to our ridiculous wage structure and contract length rule) was denied an extra bit of cash that he could get elsewhere. We'd all have done the same! We pushed him out, so am glad to see him back. As for our 'traditions', we have watched a team bought out by Arabs become Prem Champions by having about 3 first XI that would rival any side and become a monopoly club, a club with no history or class turn Russian and become Champs of Europe at our expense, often buying players for ridiculous fee's so that others are denied their services, and a Utd side that have gone about their business so disgustingly in my view under Fergie, with contempt and vile outspoken players, often conning, cheating and winding up officials and oppositions so that they stay at the top. We then watch our 'traditional and historic' club get trounced every year by these same sides. We finally have someone who has bite and tenacity to get really stuck in and fight, and we berrate him for cutting his sleeves as it's not the Arsenal way! I get the poppy shirt, 100%, but as for the rest, let him wear whatever the f**k he wants.

Re: THE ARSENAL TRADITIONS
We'll quote you on that when you're ranting at Rosicky for some major crime such as not looking over his shoulder as a free kick sails into our net, or Diaby makes a tongue in cheek remark about wearing a shirt given to him by a friend in privatedonaldo wrote:I see the Flamini haters are out in force. They never wanted him back but they cant have a go at his performances on the pitch because he has been excellent this season. So they have a go over a stupid thing as sleeves.Grow up and move on
We'll make sure you're invited to the unveiling of Flamini's statue

You'd probably be moaning at Herbert Chapman's innovations if he was around now. I can almost imagine it now, "floodlights? what do we need them for? no tradition goes out the window when money is involved"
