Paul Merson request
Received this email from a gent named Tony Seeley
We have Paul Merson as a Speaker at our Football Club in Birmingham on the 24th Oct,would appreciate any thoughts you have on his days with Arsenal as part of my introduction to the great man.
Thanks very Much
So over to you people. Anything that would suit an intro? Put them on this thread and I will compile them for Tony.

one of a few players i idolised as a younger gooner, a terrific flair player who was great to watch. YOung player of the year in 89 (i think) and someone - like spudmasher said, who should have def got 100 goals for us. Some have queried his comments about arsenal, but he has the club at his heart and only wants the best for us.

One of my first Arsenal heros, great player and a great man for getting through all his problems.
Agree it's criminal he didn't get his hundred goal. Anyone remember the season review video from 96/97 when he said he wasn't too bothered about not getting one more goal that season as he would be there for at least one (or was it a couple) more seasons? I'd like to know exactly what Wenger told him when he told him he had to leave, or if it was his own choice in the end.

Our first sight of Arsene Wenger on the bench walking around the running track in Cologne.OT02 wrote:He was my first arsenal hero. End of.
He scored 2 great goals against Munchegladbach (home AND away) in 96-97 season.
When we crashed out the UEFA cup at the first round
Brillant free-kick (edit: or long range shot, my memory fails me) in the away leg although overshadowed by Effenberg.
Merson - flawed brlillance

Merson was the first and last player I got on the back of a shirt. thought it was funny at the cup winners cup parade when everyone started singing "get paul merson out'v the bar" (I think it was the cup-winners cup?!). I reckon what somes up how most fans feel about him was summed up when we played AC millan in the super cup. AC millan were probably the best team in the world at that point but all anyone could think about was mersons comback. If I remember right the only chant for most of the first half was "we want merson, we want merson"
