usual thread starter… ok, so who would you play on Saturday – in the centre back positions, and who would you have partnering cesc? This assumes two up front of course.

Djourou and Gallas as centre backs.
Offers variation of height, pace and experience.
I would persist with Song partnering Cesc.
(Coquelin still too inexperienced,
need to see more of Ramsey to see if he can tackle,
Diaby cannot tackle,
Eboue would keep on bench,
Denilson not so sure of in rough tough away game, rather keep him for Fenerbahce following week ).

Silvestre and Gallas. I thought they showed promise on Wednesday, and I think we need to persevere with those two.
Wenger doesn't seem to trust Djourou, and it would seem he's fourth choice Centre back.. maybe even fifth, behind Song? although, I must admit, I'd like to see more of him!
I would choose Alex Song at centre midfield, as Denilson and Cesc seem too similar. They both like to get forward, and neither want to defend.. and neither are great at defending anyway!
Song is much better defensively than Denilson, but he's hardly the finished article. He has a languid style and never seems to get out of first gear, but he is a talented boy.. but at 19, he will make mistakes in there. He will have times when he switches off.. when his positioning is poor, and when he's caught on the ball.
- unfortunately, this is echoed throughout the squad, and is a consequence of youth.
Finally, Diaby. I'm ruling him out for now, as Wenger seems reluctant to play him there.. so I don't think he comes into it.
Quite simply, signing a centre midfielder was a necessity over the summer, and we're now paying the price!

4 Terrible Scenarios
4 scenarios to get mentally and psychologically prepared for:
1) Sp@#$ avoid relegation by 1 point and it's because of OUR recent GIFT!
2) Aston Villa pip us to 4th spot and we end up in U.E.F.A. Cup mediocrity
3) Cesc decides enough is enough and leaves at the end of the season.
4) Worst of all? We don't even finish 6th and lose in the domestic cup semi-finals so that we don't even get into Europe through the cup final loser to a Big Four team or even the Inter-Toto Cup routes.
I don't know about you guys but for me it certainly pays to be prepared so that you don't end up throwing yourself under a train like a Sp@#$ fan when it happens.

extremely well put, it was just to easy to see. i have no problem with A.W. view of young players, but we cannot win the title without some expierence and determined 'ballwinners.g88ner wrote:Silvestre and Gallas. The reliability and atitude of the young players will only suffer more..
