The case for Sly
The case for Sly
There had been a lot of negative vibes towards the signing of Silvestre, but against Utd, i think he proved he can play at the top level- the experience he showed was superb.
He was very good in the air, attacking the high ball with authority and determination.
He is also a no nonsense defender who is not ashamed to kick the ball in row Z if he has to.
I think he may prove to be that strong and tall central defender that we have all been asking for.
I am just wondering now who will wenger use on Saturday, best bet is, he will stick with the same team.
I cant wait to see the young guns coming out tomorrow and playing, giving the seniors a much needed rest,

Yes silvestre is far better in the air than any gallas, toure and heaven forbid song and yes he isnt afraid to boot the ball high into row z when necessary but I am still not convinced by him. I was behind the north goals where manure were attacking in the 1st half and our centre backs were being torn apart with the movement of their forward line
Their 2 centre backs were lambasted for leaving the middle open for nasri's 2nd but how many times did they find themselves in a similar position in the 1st half when our centre backs were nowhere ? I have to said that it looked to me on sat that silvestre all but shit himself every time he was in possession with the exception of that 1 great run up the left in the 1st half. Yes he was probably nervous playing in his 1st big game for us and yes the fact that it was against his old team would have added to the pressure but still for a man of his experience I would have expected more composure. Maybe now he has got that game off his back he will kick on but I cant help feeling that whatever happens djouru is being sqeezed out without being given a fair whack

when toure joined us he was 1st played in midfield
he diodnt like it and complained
he was always a def before he came to us
we was Ok in central midfield like an express train at 160 mils an hr
right midfield he is like eboue a fish completly out of water
he might need a few games rested anyway
Toure is still a class act and he will come back stronger
I think he could do a def midfield role
remember its only my opnion

Yeah, but Toure is too bulked up for midfield in a 4-4-2. He is a sprinter, not a middle distance runner. He cannot last the pace for 90 mins.Calo wrote:when toure joined us he was 1st played in midfield

Might be able to do a Makalele role in a 4-5-1 though.

Would agree with that. That role in a 4-4-2 requires someone of (prime) Roy Keane build and stamina and an ability to let the ball do alot of the work. Toure tends to overplay the ball also and take it a few yards past where he should have released it. Because he is a sprinter he gets temporarily out of breath after each short or mid distance sprint. He wouldn't be able to hack it over 90 mins. The last thing we need is him charging up the centre and then losing the ball and then being too winded to charge back after it... on a regular basis...QuartzGooner wrote:Yeah, but Toure is too bulked up for midfield in a 4-4-2.
