World Championship boxing could be coming to Islington as early as May next year.

Arsenal revealed this week they want to stage multi-million pound title fights at the Emirates Stadium.

Tens of thousands of boxing fans could soon be flocking to the Gunnersâ€™ stadium with high profile bouts staged in the middle of the Emirates pitch and alcohol allowed at ringside.

As a sports stadium, the Emirates is already licensed for boxing and any fight would be staged as part of a package of six non-football events a year.

The news follows the success of two massive Bruce Springsteen concerts held in May.

Boxing has a rich history in the borough - in 1966 the clubâ€™s former Highbury Stadium played host a world heavyweight title clash between Mohammed Ali and Henry Cooper.

Ken Friar, Arsenalâ€™s acting managing director, told the Gazette:

â€œWhy should we not want to have boxing? We had a world title fight at Highbury, admittedly a long time ago.

â€œWe would have to see whether or not we would be able to attain the rights for a world title fight purely because boxing as a sport relies on TV revenue. That means you would have to broadcast to the USA and that brings time problems.â€

Would be great...if you got a good seat. Cant see Haye fighting at ours, reckon he'll get ko'd next week. But even if he does become "big" he's a milwall fan so will probably never fight at any other teams ground, and dont see him becoming big enough to fight at wembley,arena boxer.

I have a feeling we may be seeing NFL before boxing.

il be sick if NFL is played at Arsenal it makes me sick seeing them greasy *word censored* destroy the Wembley turf so we dont want it at the Grove.

If the ring was in the centre of the pitch wouldn't everyone be a bit far from the action?

Or can seating be extended onto the ground?

I also read in the London Paper last night that we have been given the go ahead to stage 3 (i think) all day music festivals. As long as they finnish at 22:30 and arn't too loud. In other words, we've been given permission to stage 3 shit music festivals.

Aparently Everton fans were adutioning tag fighting the other week. Arsenal are looking into halftime tag fighting entertaiment. two sets of fans are put in a cage in the centre of the pitch and the last one standing at the end of HT wins.

Yeah, that's what they do in most venues for boxing (everything from the O2, Wembley stadium, Wembley arena etc)

It worked well in Bolton (the overhyped northerner), no reason it wouldn't work at Arsenal (apart from obviously the local residents not appreciating a 4am finish

)

Haye vs Klitschko (either Wlad or Vitali) looks a step nearer after the win vs Barrett. Given that it the big markets for this fight are the UK and Germany, the fight could be held at 10pm at Arsenal with delayed showing in the USA, thereby keeping the locals placated by not having a 4am finish.
