Tom Watt, what are you on about?
Tom Watt, what are you on about?
Arsenal just need two players this January. And one of them is in the Denilson/Song position

The author claims that we need a defensive midfielder...agreed by all!
Except it seems, by Tom Watt.
Why is Tom Watt so keen on Song?
I agree with the author that we need a pro-active energy ball winner of the Vieira/Flamini type, rather than a sitting holding midfielder of the Gilberto type, in order to get the best out of Cesc.
I do think though that Gilberto would have been worth keeping on for another year, given that the current squad is thin.
To be fair to Tom Watt, he does usually talk about how nice it would have been to have kept hold of Diarra, who was an energy ballwinner.
Fans Forum is a good show, very worthwhile viewing.
Also, Watt has written one of the best books I have ever read in my life, about the Northbank at Highbury...a book called "The End".
I unashamedly plug it here:

What does amazes me with tom is that he keeps putting Flamini down when he was 1 of our players of the season! He broke up opposition attacks, got stuck in,covered the backs when there went forward and generally protected the back four but he was also attack minded as that he supported the front 2 and made late runs into space this giving free role for Cesc to control the game. This is the position we missing and if we could find someone like him great half the puzzled solved(i hope)but i think Rosicky is dearly missed also with his runs into the box just like Freddy and his football brain.Nasri has replaced Hleb as he runs at defenders, dribbles passed them, good control and scores goals(thank god!)if we can someone like that on the right or when Theo returns then we can start creating more chances than we doing now.Song reminds me of a player at the end of his career notthe start as he lumbers about and he seems not on the same wave length as the rest of the team.Ok he does get a tackle in now and then but other than that he doesn't add anything to the game as stated we need a workhorse not a donkey!
Just heard on sky sport news that arsahvin wants to go to city am i not surprised another mercenary. You could see that coming as the saga wore on
Maybe ARSENAL should invest in cloning then we can get dna from passed greats and create a team.

iwas rather taken back by your statement we only need 2 players and one of them is to replace song, are you seriously saying that we do not need a centre half who can head the ball, or a goalkeeper that can actually make a save or come and catch a ball, do you not think we need a midfielder/wide man who can consistently score 15-20 goals a season in the mode of overmars or pires, all that without the question of the strikers, ade will be off as soon as someone comes back in for him ,rvp just does not do it consistently enough (I wish he would with his skill he could be the very best) and will eddy be the same player, to compete with the best we need 4 or 5 quality players not promising kids their time will come what we need is some stability and experience or we will not win anything for a long time to come
