Kaka ........... Wenger's Get Out Of Jail Free Card !!

Post by Kipmonster »

Mr Wenger will be all smiles tonight at the news that Kaka has turned down Manchester ' Citeh '. Inevitably ' Citeh's ' attention will turn to Andrei Arshavin & their transfer fee offer & contract terms will blow Arsenal away & if that is the case then that's good for Arsenal as we don't need a player who sees wads of cash ahead of a great club, great coach & great football.
It has to be said though that Mr Wenger will be relieved because if he was serious about signing Arshavin then the deal would have been signed, sealed & delivered by now. Signing Arshavin would have been a reluctant concession to the fans & media critics of the lack of transfer activity by a club who sold the fans the move to the Emirates as it meaning we would compete at the highest end of the transfer market. This has been a bare faced lie & Mr Wenger will now plead ' oh how hard we did try to buy Arshavin but once ' Citeh ' entered the race we couldn't possibly compete ' .
Another transfer window thus passes by for Arsenal fans with zero activity & no buzz & excitement of a star name signing. It is though in keeping with the ' yawn yawn ' season this has been.

I do not think it is fair to say that if we were serious about Arshavin the deal would have already been done.

Just because we are serious, does not mean it is not worth having a go at bargaining the price down.

City may well be after Arshavin, amongst a lot of other players.

Who says Arshavin wants to go to City?

I think better football is his motivation for leaving, not just money.

Well we shall see won't we ?

Like the Nasri transfer, this 'proposed' deal is tortuosly dragging along & it's fair to question the committment & desire to buy.

With the resources the club now generates it's about time we showed we are big players in the market.
A quality big centre half & strong defensive midfielder should be priorities. If the interest in Arshavin is serious then sadly it seems unlikely we will see Rosicky in our shirt again & that's a very great shame.

Being the Grade 1 Cynic that I am - certainly as far as Arsneal are concerned - I like your style 8) 8) 8)

Like you I think this could well be the gameplan.

Having said that, as posted elsewhere, we don't really need Arshavin. We need some steel/beef, along the spine of the team in Central defence and Central Midfileld. As the Sun said TWO CDs and one CM.

But this would require real intention and ambition. One wonders just how much of that Wenger actually has ?

Come February 1st , we will be that much closer to finding out.

i understand your frustration, but i really wish people would understand that the grove was built with the intention that arsenal could compete with the worlds elite IN THE LONG TERM. 3 SEASONS IS NOT LONG TERM. as the debt decreases, more and more funds should potentially become available for use by le gaffér.

am i right in thinking that the plans for the stadium were finalised before millionaire backing/ownership became the norm in the premier league? this is probably the single greatest factor in arsenal falling behind the other serious clubs, not the building of the grove, a place which, with time, will become saturated in history just like its tiny predecessor.

I agree with you 100% ............ Mr Wenger is stubbornly determined to pursue this youth project & prove all critics wrong. It's baffling to understand why Mr Wenger has moved from building teams for the present & future to building a team for an uncertain future ??

The Stadium debt is a 25 year serviceable mortgage & the latest announced financial results showed a huge cash balance in the bank.

We spent last Summer a net amount of just over £1 million....... Ridiculous for a club of our stature about to emark on an 11th successive season in the Champions League.

Will such prudence show economic & football sense if we fail to qualify for the Champions League this season & lose out on £30 to £40 million and see our top players leave to join rival Eoropean Champions League participants ??

It is not baffling.

Wenger has said that he knew money would be tight because of the building of the new stadium, as he had to bring in younger cheaper players, as he would not be able to afford the expensive ones.

He also has a mission to see if he can build a team of younger players with potential into a world beating team.

What would baffle me, is if Wenger fails to bring in a central defensive midfielder this transfer window.

Above all else, that is our weakest position.

We sold Diarra, Flamini and Gilberto and replaced them over the summer with a very good for his age but still only 17 years old Coquelin.

What makes me apoplectic is that - as The Telegrph points out - Arsenal have had a nice windfall, from out of the blue.

Bentley's transfer to Spurs
Mwamba's transfer to Bolton
Diara's transfer to Real

This netted @ £10 million from sell on clauses. Money for proverbial 'old rope' and more than enough to sign - say - Scott Parker and still leave room for the bulk of the fee for a decent central defender.

But no we are - or come February 1st without any action will be - too poverty stricken, either in terms of money or ambition to move on that front ! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
