Objective – Keep Wenger! (3/7)
usual thread starter... i think the consensus is that arsenal would be best served by a further stint by arsene. by let's say 2011, the club should be in good enough health to be able to compete on an equal footing with any club that is run on solid business lines. the signing of da silva (and indeed the decision to let th14 go) indicates that arsene has analysed what went wrong last season and is dealing in the transfer market accordingly.
now for a bit of width and a utilty man who can compensate for losing some of our players to the african cup of nations early next year. and hell, i still wouldn't say no if you told me nicholas anelka was on the cards, but my gut feeling is that - unless we are going to switch to 4-3-3 - arsene's finished buying strikers for the summer.

Wenger and the Board
I would rather trust our existing board and Ken Friar to guide this club smoothly through the next two years of tricky financial waters than let Deino and that fucking American ponce take control and get what they can out of it.
Remember Dein only has a good share because Fizsman bailed him out of a hole all those years ago. He's sitting on tens of millions of pounds of profit on his original investment because of Fizman and Sky, not his own business acumen.
We are doing fine and a little patience is required - of course the existing board want Wenger to stay, and will do everything to make sure he does.
If Dein is working behind the scenes to destabilise our club at this critical time then we are better off without him.
We don't need the money, we need stability!

AT LAST!
DESERT GOONER- CONGRATULATIONS.
to find someone who has retained their sanity in respect of dein and american finance is re- assuring.
i have bleated on about dein`s silence. you are right if he was atrue fan of the club he would have made a public statement encouaging henry and wenger to stay.
i share your view that dein`s silence is symptomatic of his priority being to secure his own power base whatever damage may be caused to the club in the meantime.
symptomatic of the claptrap written by majority of short sighted gooners is the lunatic suggestion of the bloke who started this thread that the board are to blame for the cashley cole affair. lets get it right. dein put forward a recommendation- the board rejected it at first. cole and his agent could have tried to persuade board to change its mind - instead they sneaked off to chelsea.
the board may not be perfect but any valid criticism is undermined by blaming them for matters that aint their fault.
just remember those of you who regard dein as the messiah. if he had his way we would be watching arsenal at wembley-it is the board that backed wenger`s vision of a new stadium not dein.

Well said, Desert Gooner.
Where does the notion come from that David Dein is a footballing genius and the rest of the Board know nothing about the game?
Put about by David Dein, I suggest. In truth the only facts we know about their views on footballing matters is that David Dein wanted us to play at Wembley and the rest of the board, thank goodness, overruled him.
The present board have actually served the club well over the years and I think we should have faith in them.
The criticism of them (which then translates into claiming that they know nothing about football) is that the club isn't spending cash on new players as freely as other clubs. That's partly because we have a new stadium to pay for. But also because AW prefers to pick young, relatively unknown players whom he can mould - as happened yesterday.
If you think the present board aren't much interested in football, why do you assume an American with no historical affinity to the club will be better? Isn't it far more likely that he would follow the Glazer route and borrow against the club's assets to fund the purchase and then recoup costs through higher ticket prices. We've just had our prices frozen unlike the Mancs who are paying up to £500 a year more for season tickets. i think we should count our lucky stars.
I agree that keeping AW is a priority. But imagining that Dein's return, backed by an American whose motives are unclear, is what the club needs seems very wide of the mark.

I have no intention of going into the whole Ashley Cole debate again because that has been done to death on another thread. However, I must pick you up Rolypoly (now that sounds more difficult than it is!rolypoly wrote:..symptomatic of the claptrap written by majority of short sighted gooners is the lunatic suggestion of the bloke who started this thread that the board are to blame for the cashley cole affair. lets get it right. dein put forward a recommendation- the board rejected it at first. cole and his agent could have tried to persuade board to change its mind - instead they sneaked off to chelsea.

So, Arsene Wenger the manager and David Dein the director of football can't persuade Peter Hill Wood and the Board to pay Cole an extra £5,000, but you expect the player and his agent to be able to do so? What kind of mumbo jumbo and flawed reasoning is that? And you've got the cheek to accuse other people of talking clap-trap and being short-sighted!!

It brings to mind the famous saying: Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt!!

getting side tracked from the main thread but you miss the point about cashley and his agent. they did not enter negotiations with anyone at arsenal after initial rejection.- they went straight off to chelsea.
and are you picking on the wrong bloke to insult on the web. ever heard of the law of defamation. whether you haveor not i suggest get legal advice from a solicitor even more experienced than myself.
but before you shit yourself too much i accept you are a bit thick and as you are a gooner i will let you of the hook. instead you should consider yourself privileged to have access to my pearls of wisdom.
ps you ought to join the unmentionables down the road given like them you are lacking basic intelligence

QUESTION TO DESERT GOONER AND ROLYPOLY :
WHO BOUGHT ARSENE TO OUR GREAT CLUB? THAT IS THE ONE THING YOU TWO REFUSE TO ADMIT. WITHOUT DEIN WE WOULDN"T HAVE WENGER,THE TROPHIES,THE GREAT PLAYERS AND PLAY THE BEST FOOTBALL IN THE WORLD. AND THE DECISION TO BRING HIM TO HIGHBURY 11 YEARS AGO WAS THE GREATEST EVER MADE. WE SHOULD HOLD OUR HANDS UP AND THANK DEIN FOR BRINGING ARSENE TO US.

You talk about defamation (like I'm scared!) then proceed to do the same thing on your post. If you are a lawyer pal, you're in the right profession because you're a big fucking wanker who talks out of his arse!!! You can stick your law of defamation right up your jacksy!!rolypoly wrote:.. and are you picking on the wrong bloke to insult on the web. ever heard of the law of defamation. whether you haveor not i suggest get legal advice from a solicitor even more experienced than myself.

Me shit myself? From you and your threats? Anytime pal, any fucking time!! Just name the place and a time and I'll be there! As for letting me off the hook because I'm a gooner? Don't let that stop you mate. Similar to the above point - you name the Court, and I will be there.
I should be privileged to have access to your pearls of wisdom, eh? How much you charging? Even at one pence a throw they would still be well over-priced!! Let's hope you're not one of those lawyers who has to fight cases on a No Win - No Fee basis, otherwise you really will be on the bread-line!
And then you throw in the school-yard 'lacking basic intelligence' insult to boot!! Has that helped you win many cases so far? Thought not. Having read most of your contributions thus far, I would submit that it is you, sir, that is lacking intelligence - regardless of what formal educational qualifications you may have!
I can't believe the cheek of you. This from a lawyer? A blood-sucking leech whose only goal in life is to fiddle as much money out of their clients/the public purse as possible? Get back into the hole you just crawled from, you fool!!
If you think you can scare with me your pathetic threats and the fact you are a lawyer, you've got another thing coming and have made a very poor decision.
So come on, fatboy, make my day. Lets get it on either in the Courts or Marquis of Queensberry style - your choice!!

Rolypoly,
I have now had a couple of hours to calm down, so will respond in a more civilised way.
If your post was genuinely meant to be funny and a wind-up, then I apologise for losing my rag a bit.
Now I can take a joke and being wound up as well as the next man. I don't mind at all being the butt of a gag or some funny comments - just ask the other forum regulars. I love comedy AND serious debate.
However, what I do mind is being threatened by someone and also being told I am stupid or unintelligent. A person's intelligence is measured by more than just the qualifications he may have on a piece of paper, or the occupation he is in. If you really are a lawyer, you should know that better than most.
I worked my nuts off to educate myself after leaving a very poor secondary school and am sufficiently educated and intelligent enough to hold a discussion/debate with anyone on almost anything. Indeed, I would wager that the knowledge I have accrued over the past 25 years since leaving school would allow me to comfortable hold my own on almost any platform with so-called clever people!!
Now I don't like to fall out with anyone - especially a fellow gooner. If it was all meant to be a joke - it was a bad one because it didn't come across as such. If you were serious, I hope you have learnt a lesson from this experience. Beneath this jovial, happy-go lucky exterior, there is a human being - a mad one, granted - but a human being none the less. We can disagree on things, but please don't threaten me or question/insult my intelligence.
Now, where did i put that big, fat blunt I was smoking?

point noted. apologies to you
but just remember when slaughtering the board, dein recommended wenger-the board backed dein; dein recommended not building new ground and moving to wembley; the board overruled dein. possiblythetwo most important decisions in arsenal`s post world war two history and the board got it right both times.

Rolypoly,
Fair enough, you make a good point there. Let's just hope the third most important decision - getting rid of Dein - doesn't come back to bite us; and a fourth - making sure Wenger signs a new contract - can be achieved, and fairly quickly.
I don't believe that David Dein is the be all and end all of Arsenal Football Club, and you're right to say he made a mistake in the new stadium/Wembley debate. But he has been the catalyst in our evolution from a mid-table team happy to ocassionally get a UEFA Cup spot (like Spurs,Villa, Everton), to a club challenging at the very top of British and European football. No-one can deny he has been a very important - if not the most important - element in that success.
As for the Board, I must say you have more faith in them than I do. However, I agree that we should see what lies ahead before condemning them. You are also right, of course, to point out that the Board have played their part in Arsenal's success. Let's all hope that is still their primary objective and motivation - to bring continued success to our great club. Time will tell.

You could say yes, he was a visionary, who had AW in his contact book long before he arrived in 1996. And from this appointment, success has rolled in. He saw in Arsene a man who could revolutionize Arsenal. And would Arsene ever have come to Arsenal but for Dein? So he could be described as the catalyst.
On the other hand, you could say he got lucky. Arsene Wenger changed the club and its habits from top to bottom and it is Arsene Wenger who has brought this about. Dein expertly implemented Wengers wishes, but they are AW's - all of the deals, the tie-ups, the pre-season preparations, all of them. Dein managed to get access to the top table of the FA and G14 through the success generated by AW, and used his astute skills to get hold of the power he craves in football.
I think it is fair to speculate that Arsene, with Dein resigning in 1996 after the appointment (for speculation purposes) would have lead to similar success as has been achieved, but Dein-Arsene in 1996, Arsene not taking the position of Manager, would not. My contention is that David Dein has been very important in our evolution but that Wenger is the most important.
But what came first - the chicken or the egg

And I've just checked - My toilet system is working at 100% capacity so I am ready for your reply

Its nice to see some support for the board for a change.
On another thread I have been championing their cause and have been astonished at how few supporters feel the same way.
Of Dein I say this. It strikes me as funny how people quickly point to his success in bringing Wenger to the club (which I freely admit was a masterstroke), and yet those same people will quickly criticize a player for a dip in form.
How nice that Dien can rely on unwaivering support on the basis of something that he did 11 years ago, however good it may have been.
Wenger is judged on a year by year basis, some people have already called for his head in light of the last few seasons. Bizarre.
