A-ROID - should drugs in sports be legal?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americ ... 87.stm?lss
Baseball star Alex Rodriguez has admitted steroid use.
World Champion Boxer Shane Mosley recently admitted using performance enhancing drugs.
Barry Bonds, another baseball star, has been charged with lying to a grand jury about his denial of using steroids.
Ben Johnson, Carl Lewis, Linford Christie, Dwayne Chambers, Tim Montgomery and many other track athletes have all used performance enhancing drugs.
Not to mention countless field athletes, cyclists, and weightlifters.
Bodybuilding is rife with performance enhancing drugs.
Has the time come to have world sporting governing bodies make performance enhancing drugs legal in sport, as long as their use is prescribed and monitored by doctors and coaches?

Very good question quartz, i have had this discussion many times with friends.
What would be best?
All drugs allowed, where it essentially comes down to the best chemist.?
The funding that goes into testing increases in order to stay on top of the growing number of ways to beat the system being created.?
24 Hour checks?
Sadly until the rules are clear, and the testing system works there is nothing that can be done.

Absolutely not IMO - I have done extensive research on steroids both Anabolic and Androgenic and sport is supposed to be one man/woman against another and in football is already losing some of it's innocence due to, as AW refers to it "financial doping"!
To legalise gear surely begs the question where would it all end as even the tightest regs would be open to abuse but mainly think of the kids, steriod use is rife in college football in the States, and the dangers posed to adolescents by these drugs are infinitely worse than adults!
I suppose the most well known example but by no means the worst would be Petra Schneider, the East German swimmer who beat our very own (and gorgeous
) Sharron Davies at the '80 Olympics into 2nd place by 10 seconds
but later found out there would be a heavy price to pay when years later as a fully grown adult she was told she had the reproductive system of an 11yr old!
There was also long held and eventually proved well founded suspicion that drugs were bein used to suppress the natural release of hormones in young female gymnasts across the Eastern Bloc to artificially keep them pre-pubescent for the means of competition
When the state-run doping programme was fully exposed following the re-unification of Germany it was also revealed that several female athletes and I assume it would have been the power sports were Androgenic steroids were the drug of choice have actually had to start living as men as they have experienced extreme virilization probably due to heavy use of Androgens!

Oh, and I fucking hate rugby union (or buggery as it's known in Ireland) - a game for cock addicts and mentally subnormal public school boys.
