Oh we are fucking doomed!

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

Thought you would have more work to do in these times, what with looking after all those new bank accounts..surely you need to help the banks administer them?

Now sober and in work (but hungover to fuckery). :?

We should shoot all the bankers, Quartz. Sickening thing is in Ireland people in the press are having a real pop at civil servants now because the govt (being temporary public servants while in office) have helped fuck the country. But they do not represent most public or civil servants. We do not earn that much. we are actually behind most people of equivelant grade in the private sector, particularly the young public servants starting out.

The big criminals in this is the fucking banks and private sector builders and developers. They rode high on the hog for so long and drove inflation and interest rates up and made themselves a fortune and never once thought let's slow down and prolong the strong economy.

Now they have fucked the economy who has to pay for it? The public service. I had to pay a 1% employment levy on January 1st (on top of 21% tax) and now they want us to pay a 6% "pension" levy.

Robbing bastards. :evil: :banghead:

Wouldn't agree RE the public sector in general, Reb. Vast majority are low paid with no expenses. Would agree that the majority of top level senior managers are over paid and incompetent, particularly at government level.

I have worked hand in hand with the HSE for 3 years and they are the most fucked up, wasteful, badly managed, corrupt organisation I've ever seen. I cannot and will not defend them.

What fucked our economy was the banks and builders though. The expansion of house building was too fast, people taking out 98% mortgages, too much borrowing and debt and then the predictable rise in inflation which led to the virtual collapse of the housing boom. Just like it did in England in the 80's. We went straight down the same path.

What people must remember is that the govt are NOT permanent public servants. They come from the private sector (keeping their interests going there in most cases) then return to the private sector after feathering their nest in govt.

Sounds outrageous to me, those extra taxes and levies you have to pay.

98% mortgages, people here were taking out 105% mortgages. It has now blown up in everyone's face.

Local council corruption and wastage is reported on, but the scale of it here is horrific.

Councils were all too keen to get into the recycling racket as it made them money, and avoided penalties for sending too much to landfill.

Now that there is very little if any money in recycling, they are leaving rubbish to rot in the streets, and refusing (forgive the pun) to give out enough bins.

The refuse collection has undergone a noticable change in our area. We had to recycle everything and bins were checked to make sure they contained only the correct items. Those that were incorrect were still collected but notes were left for the householder to 'advise' them of their obligations. Now the bins are left uncollected and threatening letters are left. We don't have too much of an issue as there is only two us and we only fill one third of a wheelie bin each fortnight. Those families with 2 or three kids are suffering as their bins are usually full come collection day, and then don't get collected for the slightest reason. It really is becoming a joke. Fly tipping is on the increase as a result and the council are receiving an income from the prosecutions that result from residents that make a mistake. It's bloody ridiculous.
All those at the top of these national organisations ahave a lot to answer for but we must not forget that the consumer has to burden some of the blame too. Our materialistic society has caused a lot of this as well. The banks have responded to consumer need (greed) with reckless disregard of the consequences. It is going to be a long time before we see things easing off.

Over here, because banks were giving out mortgages to beat the band, young people were not buying homes.......they were buying mini castles with 4 and 5 bedrooms even though they had no family :roll: Now they are stuck with extortinate mortgages, many have either lost their jobs or had to take pay cuts and cant afford to meet their repayments but cant sell their houses cos of the shocking drop in the vauations of said properties :(

As well as that people who work for companies like the postal service (like myself) are having to take paycuts cos we are a semi state company but the brodcasters who work for the tv company rte are not forced to do the same even though it is also a semi state body :x Our so called top 4 presenters refused to take paycuts and although 2 have since backed down due to public pressure the other 2 have continued to refuse such a move - 1 has said he will make a donation to charity (great for the charity but does fcuk all for the economy I'd say :? ) while the other has a divorce to settle (like he is the only *word censored* to have that problem :roll: :evil: )

Email doing the rounds "in-house" in the Irish civil service (and on the quiet :worried: :wink: );

A Biblical recounting of Civil Service plan implementation procedure;

In the Beginning was the Plan.
And then came the assumptions.
And the assumptions were without form.
And the plan was without substance.
And darkness was on the face of the Clerical Officers.

And the Clerical Officers spoke among themselves saying, "This is a crock of shit and it stinks".

And the Clerical officers went unto their Executive Officers and said, "It is a pail of dung and we can't live with the smell".

And the EOs went unto their Higher Executive Officers saying, "It is a container of excrement and it is very strong such that none may abide it"

And the HEOs went unto their Assistant Principals and said, "It is a vessel of fertiliser and none may abide its strength".

And the APs went to the Principal Officers saying unto them, "It contains that which aids plant growth and it is very strong".

And the Principal Officers went unto their Asst Secretaries saying unto them, "It promotes growth and it is very powerful".

And the Asst Secretaries spoke unto the Board of Directors saying, "This new plan will actively encourage growth and vigour in the Department, with very powerful effects".

And the Board of Directors looked upon the Plan and saw that it was good.

And the Plan became policy.

:lol: :wink:

(and :banghead: :banghead: )
