In the 1st half it was a case of newcastle playing above them selves and us letting them but the ref was a joke for most of the game,he should have booked duff for his 9.5 dive and taylor should have been sent off for a blatant forearm smash that a wrestler would have been proud off(bet the fa lose the video for that!).The second half was sublime we took them apart and a truer score would have,and should have,been 7-1 BUT this is the problem i have with RVP is his greediness.I know strikers are to have that greedy streak but when bendtner was open TWICE to score in a better position RVP tries himself in tight positions but we were already 3-1 so it didn't matter but I've notice he does this on numerous times and to be fair it has cost us in some games.
With our injuries returning we could have a good run in,so who knows what might happen.

A good win overall and a game we definitely would not have won earlier in the season. The first half was a bit like Stoke - in the sense that Newcastle worked hard and closed us down quickly - but with a couple of important differences. We showed a bit of spirit in order to match their workrate, and had some quality to create clear chances.

I think these two things are linked, if we put some effort in we will get chances.

I still havenâ€™t forgotten Spurs at home back in late September, and when Martens was presented with a chance to make it 3-2 whilst the Gunners were freely spurning chances to nab a fourth, I momentarily feared the worst

Yes, we were casual for the last 10-15 mins at both ends, fortunately Newcastle were pretty much beaten by then, but if Martens had scored it would have been jittery at the close.

RVP had an odd game, missed 3 clear chances and failed to play people in when he should have, but he did create two goals with clever, simple passes - he should have just carried on doing that for Bendtner.

In terms of the league, in the last 5 years the best points tally for 5th is 65, so we probably only need another 11 for fourth place , although I know this has been a bit of an odd season. We must push on now to get some daylight between Villa and Everton.
