As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
as a gooner of over 30 years i think 89 was the best feeling ever 4 an arsenal fan,, people must hav great memories of that nite,, i had my 21st birthday party in a pub in cork wit lots of lfc fans wit just my dad, uncle and myself gooners . drinking and singing all nite and all day sat as well,, best nite of my life wat are yere memories,, just 4 the old guys hahaha
oh mate, this ranks as the best night of my life up there with getting married and the birth of my daughter (dont tell my wife that though). I was 18 and a year earlier i had started going to matches on my own now i was earning money. I watched it at home with my Dad,Mum and brother all of us gooners when Micky scored we jumped through the roof our next door neighbour said she though the wall between our houses was gonna fall down with the noise.
My dad is no longer with us so nights like these that only football can produce, stand out in my memory. Still bring the hairs on the back of my neckup when i just think about it.
I had just turned 19 earlier in the month and was only 1 when we won the 1971 double . So you all know how much this means to get your first title out of the way!! The time was ticking away and I was cursing Mickey Thomas for his earlier effort which was more like a pass back to Grobbelaar and of course we had the famous Steve McMahon "one minute" gesture to the players and the cameras! I was resigned to the fact we beat Liverpool but the wait for the title had to wait for another year.
My dad then beginning to tell me how Arsenal will always break you heart (some things never change eh gooners?! ) Then Lukic gets the ball out to Dixon who plays it onto Smith who traps it and and plays it to Mickey T , Micky T turns and is of and after a deflection he is through . Now this moment seemed to go in slow motion for me as it took an age for him to release the ball and I was screaming at the telly SHOOT SHOOT And of course the rest is history. Im getting goosebumps just typing this and bringing it all back to me .
I was 16 years old and this ranks as the best night of my footballing life.
McMahon shaking hands with John Barnes with one minute to go. Aldridge throwing a sulk after the match. Did anyone find out why the scousers surrounded the ref for the first goal?
I had to watch it at the local cricket club after training and as the only gooner, was taking bets left right and centre. Out of loyalty rather than expectation. Won £60 quid that night which was an absolute fortune for me.
Thomas went through on about 86 minutes and didn't slot home, took the second chance though!!
A great season to be an Gooner. How many assists did Marwood get that season. My memory has probably exagerated it, but I recall 2654.
Iwatched the game in the public bar (yeah public bar you did say it was one for the old uns)of my local pub we went berserk when mickey scored, someone in the saloon bar asked the governor to tell us to keep the noise down he told him to eff off and tell us him self. But what made it really special was one of my best friends and fellow season ticket holder passed away just before easter. He used to go to home and away all the time his name was denis, he looked like something out of zz top some of the older guys might remember him.
The scousers were claiming that the free kick had gone straight in and not touched anybody!!! But as we all know if you look at the footage when they zoom in on Alan Smith he has a big mud mark on the side of his face where it hit him !!! It was David O'Leary who went to pick up John Aldridge and Aldo shoved him arm away. I remember the handshake between McMahon and Barnes now too !
ONE MINUTE ONE MINUTE ONE MINUTE !!!!
ONE MINUTE ONE MINUTE ONE MINUTE !!!!
also rememeber northbank had a song for steve mcmahon,, 1minute mcmahon,, hope this thread cheers every1 up,, remember where by far the greatest team world has ever seen
Cup winners cup final is a good memory for me. I was thirteen years old i can remember my hands were sweating like crazy while watching the game at home with my brothers when AS scored that classic strike I ran ran round the room cheering so my brothers kicked the shit outta me! but it was worth it.
A more recent memory would be the 5-3 game against boro in 2004. i missed the 1st half due to being at the All Ireland Semi Final. I walked into the pub just when boro went 3-1 up I couldn't believe it! of course the whole pub roared with deight (is it just me or does everyone love seeing arsenal in trouble?). I sat down right up at the big screen and even tho we were trailing there was a feeling that this game aint over, up stepped DB10 3-2 and then Bobby appeared out of no where to make it 3-3. when the replay of that goal was finished it went back the game we were on the attack already cesc does a bit of dancing reyes collects the ball Martin Tyler screams "REYES" yes its 4-3!! my head nearly exploded i was roaring that much. Titi scored the fifth but boro were aready finished off. an unbievable way to equal the Forest Record it must of been amazing to have been at Highbury for that game.

Youve cheered me up with this cant believe its 18 years ago still got it taped on VHS taped all the news reports for the next couple of days too. Anyone who went or even saw this should count themselves lucky i think not many football fans have that experience..... Especially not the Spuds fans HA HA HA

I was only 5 at the time so I didn't have a clue what was going on. My uncle, who has been a season ticket since the 70's was there and says it was the greatest footballing moment of his life. He doesn't show much emotion for that night, or anything else for that matter, but I know it meant so much to him and all Gooners be they 5 years old or 75 years old.
"It's up for grabs now!" my favourite piece of footballing commentary.

Rebel Gooner, congratulations on 300. Do you get a carriage clock?
My wife is not going to be pleased with you. Courtesy of this thread, I have dug out the 1988/89 season compilation video casette ready to watch with a few beers.
This was the season when Rocky scored a screamer with no backlift wasn't it? I remember hearing that Clough was at Highbury that game as Forest were scheduled to play us. Said afterwards he wish he hadn't gone as we scared the life out him.
I think youre thinking of the game Arsenal played against Liverpool in the league cup at anfield Rocky scored a blinder that night, we eventually lost in a 2nd replay at Vila Park but had revenge later in the important game
