[quote]Florentino Perez, the clear favourite to become Real Madrid president in the summer, has set the wheels in motion to bring Arsene Wenger to the Bernabeu. Meetings have already taken place that confirm the interest of the Spanish club, the curiosity (at the very least) of the Arsenal boss and the deteriorating relationship between the French coach and his current employers.
And, despite the fact that Wenger came close to joining Real Madrid in 2003 and 2006; in the words of a source close to Wenger: "never before has it seemed more possible."
According to sources in France, Jorge Valdano - the man to whom Florentino Perez has delegated the responsibility for negotiating with the next coach of Madrid - held at least two meetings in Paris last Tuesday: one in relation to Franck Ribery, the other with Arsene Wenger`s agent, the Armenian Serge K.
An alternative source claims that Wenger has spoken personally with Florentino Perez last week, possibly by telephone: with further conversations set to take place in the next couple of days. Following these initial conversations, Florentino Perez has come to the conclusion that Arsene Wenger is ready to join Real Madrid.
Wenger, speaking yesterday on the French television programme Telefoot, broadcast by the French channel TF1 with whom the Arsenal coach works as a pundit, said: "With Florentino Pérez in charge, the project he has put forward would be interesting for any coach.â€

Only one impediment to that 'dream scenario' and it's this.
Real Madrid are run by rabid head cases who were prepared to sack Fabio Capello even though he won 'em the title but did not win the CL -
Wenger would not last two years there regardless.
Would he risk that ?
Frankly if he were linked with Bayern Munich - a more sane and stable institution - I would be more believing. I would genuinely be surprised if he went to Real. He'd be on a hiding to nothing - regardless of mateys promises otherwise.

I agree. I think Wenger is too wise to go to Real. If he did go it would seem to contradict a lot of what he has said in the past about loyalty, honouring contract etc. Wenger must look at clubs like Madrid and the high turnover of managers and cringe at the idea.Rob wrote:Only one impediment to that 'dream scenario' and it's this.

wenger won't last 6 months esp is he starts signing POTENTIAL
let him go then he will see how patient lot we reallty was
hes the one that lost it not us
Mixed emotions about this really - if he is playing hard ball with the board over a lack of transfer funds then that is just fine with me, but if he is using the backlash from shareholders last thursday night to force evrybody to back him or he will leave then I would start to pack his bags for him. To me it appears that wenger feels that no-one has the right to criticise or question him and even for a man of his acheivements I still find that line of thought amazing
Every employee in every job in the world is answerable to somebody be that 60,000 + fans or a 1 man corner shop businessman and if he cant accept that then not alone is he at the wrong club but he is in the wrong sport
Over the last week or so opinions have been put forward saying that we the fans might end up forcing wenger out if we are not careful and when this link 1st surfaced it was seen as proof of that. However I am wondering if there is more to it than that - it seems to be well accepted that there has been a major shift of balance in the boardroom and I am wondering if all of a sudden he is being seriously questioned by our new ceo and kroenke as opposed to being given free rein what wenger had become accustomed to. While wenger might not especially like such a turnaround (if it was playing out like that) to me it would signal that the club are ambitious again and maybe 4th is no longer the summit of our plans and that can only be good for the club
After saying all that though I have to say that I really really doubt the integrity of this story. The spanish media and their clubs are well known for their propaganda bullshit that has every man, woman and child about to sign for their clubs
However, as **** pointed out earlier, it took the club fcuk all time to come out with a statement rubbishing the pat rice retiring story so it will be interesting to see the response from .com here

"maybe 4th is no longer the summit of our plans "
I can't imagine that AW was ever content with that (4th and no trophies) either - I think what may be overlooked is that AW hurts as much as any of us when he /Arsenal do not deliver..
As for this story what a load of spanish BOLLOCKS!
C**TS like guillermo will say anything to their press to get themselves re-elected...etc...to gain favour with press, fans etc You only have to look at R.Madrid last year and how they made up all kinds of bullshit about ronaldiver
put it like this if AW was to leave then we Really WOULD be in "SERIOUS" Fucking Trouble. end of.

You may be right about Kroenke and Gaz, i can't see Kroenke in particular being happy with where we are at the moment if there is one thing i would expect from the American mentality is ambition, looking for bigger and better things from us, i don't see him sitting back hoping for the best, i think he will want to make things happen and i don't expect him to have much regard for what AW done 5 years or more ago, if AW is not improving us i have no doubt he will be put under pressure to deliver like most managers are and should be.augie wrote:Mixed emotions about this really - if he is playing hard ball with the board over a lack of transfer funds then that is just fine with me, but if he is using the backlash from shareholders last thursday night to force evrybody to back him or he will leave then I would start to pack his bags for him. Also as you say this story about Madrid is total nonsense, Madrid would be the last club AW would go to especially after having the control and lack of pressure to deliver he has become accustomed to here, if he did go he would have to deliver within 3 months no settling in period no development period not to mention he wouldn't be able to take the pressure of spending the kind of money they spend on players. A club like Madrid would be his biggest nightmare.
