Campaign for the return of the Clock
The message below has gone out to all the REDaction mailing list. I know not all are on it so here it is for you guys and girls.
Hopefully you will feel its a worthwhile campaign to support.
Hi all
A long, boring, quiet summer, isn't it? Still, next Wednesday 17th we get next season's fixtures, and get to start planning where we are going to clinch the league title.....
Over the last couple of years, REDaction have been consistently campaigning to the Club, about the national flag ban. We felt that it was unnecessary and over the top, and our constant badgering on the subject eventually helped to get the right response. Now, the flag ban is over, and things are as they should be once again.
Next on our hitlist is the Clock - we get lots of emails about this, and feel it is time to tackle the powers that be, to try to get it moved back inside the ground. Keith Edelman was not keen on the idea, but we think Ivan Gazidis is much more in tune with what the fans think on issues like this - if only he knew what we all think.
So, this link - http://bit.ly/OuIA - takes you to a ready made letter, addressed to Ivan Gazidis, asking for Arsenal to investigate putting the clock back inside the stadium. If you agree, please download it, print it, sign it, and stick it in a postbox. Hopefully, we can get this Arsenal icon back where it belongs.

Yea good idea, maybe next we can petition the government or FIFA or Uefa, whoever has the power, to allow some standing areas to go underneath the clock and other areas, that would be unlikely but if there is one thing that would bring back some of the old feel of football it would be the return of at least some standing areas.

Some thing probably to do with National clocks being considered as racist or stuck it outside in fear of someone texting in "large clock inside ground, please remove!"flash gunner wrote:just out of interest what were the reasons behind them not putting the clock inside the stadium in the first place?alanalansunderland wrote:Please spread the word as far and as wide as you can, use whatever contacts you have etc.

Well I have been told a few different reasons in various meetings with the club over the last few years.flash gunner wrote:just out of interest what were the reasons behind them not putting the clock inside the stadium in the first place?alanalansunderland wrote:Please spread the word as far and as wide as you can, use whatever contacts you have etc.

One that does ring somewhat true is that the Clock would just look to small in the new ground. However my answer to that was always well just have a larger copy made.
It was also said that the new stadium roof could not take the weight. This again seemed a little strange that a brand new building was not strong enough to take some weight on it etc. i also thought again that a newer version could be made that would be somewhat lighter no doubt.
My own feeling is that certain individuals at the club just felt it did not fit in with the new corporate image at the club. These people obviously had no feeling for the clubs history etc but we do feel that this attitude is changing.
Another simple reason might well have been cost and of course this could still be a factor.
If I was being really cynical then the selling of the timing rights might have been compromised if there was another Clock in the ground? Although again I feel this would have been very short sighted as Ebel could quite easily have had their name on an iconic piece of football history, surely a good marketing ploy for them?

I'm not bothered about the clock being in the stadium arena, I loved Highbury but it's gone. The thing that annoys me is that where they've put it seems like an afterthought in that you don't get a clear view wherever you are, there's always a pillar in the way (it's like being back in the East Lower). Im sure it's too big for the museum but they could put in one of the bigger stadium receptions, like they've done with Chapman's bust
