My nephew, who is a bit of a computer expert, told me to avoid that site at all costs.

I visit the site every day just to have a look at what's on offer, you can sometimes find something that you might have been thinking about buying.
There are loads of comments a reviews written during the day by who are obviously computer geeks. I have never seen anyone write about problems.

would it be fair to say this is only of use to people with pcs rather than macs?

To the best of my Knowledge, windows only

There is also free games for pc which you would normally have to pay for.
