arsenal v lazio

Post by nuttygoonerpaul »

Arsenal continued their encouraging pre-season form with a 2-1 victory over Lazio at the Amsterdam Tournament.

Eduardo da Silva, making his first Arsenal appearance since being granted a work permit, scored the winning goal to cap a fine individual performance.
:D

Sounds like something that might be written by a headline writer or on sky sports. Otherwise, you have a career opp there nutty.

Eddy fitted in well, Arsenal defensively not so good, hoyte poor, djourou good, Bendtner nice finish and link play, Clichy excellent. Good run-out.

And Song played!

It was an overall good performance. Bear in mind that Italian teams are 5 weeks away from their season. I Inter did United last night but still i wouldn't read too much into the win. Eduardo looked sharp. I thought he was fouled for their goal where he seemed to try and take the ball down in the box. Other than that it was an "efficient" performance.

... we still look terribly vulnerable at the back with Senderos & Manuel Fawlty having no apparant communication.

As for Arsenal over - playing? Just check out that Van Persie chance in the 2nd half. There were enough chances in 20 seconds there to seal 3 games!

Nice to see the Arsenal players and coaching staff shaking hands with Reyes. When a player leaves Arsenal, they leave with a bit of Arsenal in them. I know we give Anelka stick but there's very few who flee the nest and don't get a raptuous applause if they return a la Vieira 2006. You could hardly see Everton welcoming back Rooney after his move to united, but with us it's different. We're a cut above...

We've now scored twice from a corner in the space of less than a week, have we been practicing or is that our quota for the season now used up.

In true A.W style "I did not see it". That's a bit harsh, and there i was giving the lad a bit of credit...

Sure he wasn't kissing it to the travelling Madrid contingent? I believe i spotted an Athletico shirt or two in the crowd.

Football is full of badge kissers these days. It means nothing - nor should anyone get wound up about it.

Quoting on stearmaster comment we didn't really have a leader in the back 4 someone like gallas or toure to issue the troops round. Also Lazio do have a europen qualifier in the nxt couple of weeks so they would of been working towards that.

DONE OKAY - BUT CAN DO BETTER

Post by I Hate Hleb »

OUR DEFENCE WAS ALL OVER THE SHOP TONIGHT!! :x  BOTH THE CENTRE HALFS PLAYED OKAY - AND ONLY OKAY - BUT HOYTE, ALTHOUGH I LIKE HIM, HAD A VERY POOR GAME AT RIGHT BACK.

I THOUGHT TRAORE WAS EXCELLENT IN THE FIRST HALF BUT GOT CAUGHT OUT A BIT IN THE SECOND PERIOD. HOWEVER, I'M VERY EXCITED ABOUT HIM AND THINK HE HAS A BRIGHT FUTURE. :)

IN MIDFIELD FLAMINI WAS PARTICULARLY POOR IN THE SECOND HALF. HE JUST KEPT GIVING THE BALL AWAY IN HIS USUAL MANNER OR GETTING CAUGHT IN POSSESSION. I STILL BELIEVE THAT, DESPITE HIS VERSATILITY AND OCCASSIONAL GOALS, HE IS JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THIS ARSENAL!!

SONG DONE OKAY - MUCH BETTER THAN FLAMINI. BUT AGAIN, I'M CERTAIN THAT WE COULD DO BETTER WITH SOMEONE THAT HAS A BIT MORE QUALITY.

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY MORE NEWS ON DIARRA'S POSSIBLE TRANSFER FROM CHELSEA TO US? :? HE WOULD CERTAINLY BE A BETTER OPTION THAN EITHER OF THE TWO PLAYERS MENTIONED ABOVE!! 8)

CESC DONE OKAY AND THEO WAS VERY QUIET ON THE RIGHT, BUT CLICHY WAS HIS USUALLY BRILLIANT SELF ON THE LEFT OF MIDFIELD.

AS FOR THE STRIKERS: EDUARDO WAS BRIGHT, IF A LITTLE LACKING IN PACE, BUT HE DID LINK WELL WITH THE OTHER PLAYERS; AND I HAVE ALWAYS RATED BENDTNER. WHAT A CRACKING FINISH THAT WAS!! 8)

IN MY OPINION, GIVEN TIME AND EXPERIENCE, THIS LAD COULD TURN OUT TO BE ABSOLUTE TOP CLASS AND A TRUE SUPERSTAR. 8) :P

'SUPER, SUPER NICK
SUPER NICKLAS BENDT-NER!!'

Although I hate to agree with IHH - I've got nothing. I completely out of arguement sermons.

I suppose all I can do now is kill myself.

But before I do, I would emphasise the central question as mentioned above - Song had more of the ball and was competent with it. But in the pace of the premiership, as he has shown, he is lost and his close control under pressure is woeful. Let's hope we don't have to rely on him for any length of time.

Not a bad choice but he won't play regularly enough to make this a realistic option.

I think Gallas isn't such a bad choice. He knows how to organise, he's vocal, he doen't mind taking on Jens (ala Bruce with Schmeichel) which keeps eveyone on there toes. And I think he just voices concerns that we all feel in terms of the team - more agression and will to fight for the right to play.

Going forward we looked good Eduardo was impressive but at the back we were woeful. How many free headers in the box did Lazio have? Its the same old problem as last season a ball played in the air in our box and we are likely to concede,as the commentators said we wont get away with it in the premiership And can someone tell me why Song is at the club?he is about our 10th choice midfielder. He is not an Arsenal type player he runs around just kicking people a bit like Robbie Savage. Why is he still on our books?
