A Question for the 'older' Irish Gooners
A Question for the 'older' Irish Gooners
I was posed a strange question by an Indian friend of mine not long ago. (Now you see his brother is a Chav fan and we have many disagreements over msn in regards to football.)
Anyway, he asked me: Do Irish hate English?
I replied that some Irish would still dislike English due to the history between the two.
Then he asked: If they hate them so much, why do the Irish still follow the ENGLISH Premier League? And obviously this from his evil brother: Why did your father (and thus you) watch the EPL and support Arsenal when the Irish don't like English?
So, I told him I had to go (I really did have to go to dinner) but I will see him in school tomorrow and will need a reply. So....DB10, rebel....?

Well the simple fact is we don't really have a professional league, and you've got arguably the most exciting league in the world next door, and then of course there's Big Pat, Chippy, Rice, Stapelton, Terry Neil, John Devine, Sammy Nelson, O'Blarney in the 70's half our side was from the Emerald Isle and altho the main sport down south is Gaelic Big Jack won over a new generation of fans with his escapades in the world cups that were beyond their wildest dreams, and the Irish live for their sport!

i am proud 2 support the greatest english football club.. ARSENAL FC.. arsenal were always the team 4 the irish who lived in london,, and before the manc bandwagon jumpers ..arsenal prob had the biggest support of any team in this country.. and still huge gooner support over here

Agreed.
I never have had any problem with the English, but when I heard mention of this, I thought it may be due to my geological seperation from the majority of Irish, as well as my age seperation.
I have decided that I will ask his Chav brother why he supports the Chavs when he is Indian.
Damn Chel$ki bastard. When I first asked him why the Chavs, his answer was that he liked the colour blue.

Belfast Boy and Rebel covered that subject with great tact and honesty and I would agree with all they had to say.
While we may not have welcomed English political influence in the past we just cannot hate someone because he or she happens to be born in England, that would be mental
Do the English still hate the Krauts or Nips, I doubt it or there would not be a Golf or Civic on the road
Green Gooner is so proud to be a Green Goooooooner

Great answers . As for the kid who liked the football kit blue , Go support Wigan! they play in blue ! The good thing about Arsenal is we are a club for everybody. Although the press and tv go on about "today's team features not 1 english player" and all that bollocks (who gives a fuck?! ) If they are good enough I dont care where the player comes from . Id say at the moment the 3 most popular players (in my opinion) come from Spain , Ivory Coast and Holland
