WHL 2004
WHL 2004
No real reason for this thread, but I was just watching the Gunners Greatest Moments on the Arsenal site and was reliving April 25th 2004 and us winning the league at White Hart Lane. That day has to go down as one of the best of my life.
Not only did we win the league at the scum's ground, but I met my very own 'Dorris'. It doesn't really get any better, does it?
My memories of the day are thus; couldn't get tickets for the game, so my brother, my dad and I went up to The Gunners to watch it. We got there at about 12 and watched the Chelsea game. My Dorris agreed to come down to watch it with us and meet the family for the first time (what a first encounter!). The rest is a bit of a blur. It resulted in me falling asleep on a train and ending up about 50 miles from home. Good times!
Anyone else care to share their memories of the day? I'm feeling very nostalgic at the moment!

I remember we couldn't get tickets and debated flying over to watch it in the Gunners or the Bank Of Friendship or the Cannon Club. In the end we watched it in a local boozer owned by three brothers (two of whom were massive but genuine manc fans - unlike 99.99% of Irish manureheads, they actually travel over to old shatford and do Euro trips too, so fair dues where deserved
).
There were a couple of local spuds
down one end with a heap of dirty local manure armchair b*stards
cheering for the spuds. We were up the other end. We got the piss on early and lamped through the pints.
The best bit was when Keane equalised and WHL went mental, thinking they'd stopped us winning the league
. The spud gimps and their manure bitches in our boozer went mental too at full time until they saw us going mental celebrating. Someone must have told them the truth of the situation because they all got up and left - as we sang "Cheerio, cheerio, cheerioooo!" at them.
One of our mob then lost the plot altogether and bought a bottle of champagne from the bar.
One great thing about the day that I remember was one of the manure fan owners then brought us over a 2nd bottle of champagne and congratulated us, said we were the best team!!!
And then, when he went off duty, his bro came in, saw us celebrating and he too grabbed a bottle of champers and handed it over with congratulations!!
And then the first brother arrived back (fairly drunk) a couple of hours later and plonked another bottle of champers on the table!!!!!!!
Magic day and night. P*ssed as alcoholic crunt monkeys and singing our heads off.

For me its gotta be 89. I think the film Fever Pitch was written for thousands of us who went through that dramatic night.
I work nights and at that time I worked in Gt Marlborough Street behind the London Palladium and we had this poxy old black and white portable tv that someboy had brought in and we couldnt get a proper picture without one of us standing right by the set holding up this piece of wire in a certain position, oh those were the days. I dont know how many times I couldnt bear to watch it and walk right down to the end of the building so I couldnt hear it but then walk back up again. When smudger scored I went apeshit cos I just knew we werent gonna get the second goal - oh yea of little faith! Then that moment that has locked itself in my brain forever when Steve Macrunt was going round gestering with his finger that there was just one minute to go to the Mickey Mousers and then Michael Made In Heaven Thomas went through and scored - PRICELESS!
There was three of us who were gooners at work and we went fucking crazy just like the film. Another thing that has always remained with me is when David O'Leary went to shake John Aldridge's hand and he refused - the fucking *word censored* - if I had been O'Leary I would have gobbed on the *word censored* - that is one low life I have hated ever since. Anyway we couldnt concentrate on doing any work so we went round the pub in Carnaby Street and got absolutely pissed.

Er Del? This thread was about WHL 04. There is another thread about Anfield 89...
Not to worry.
I'm gonna join you and go "off-thread"!! That's never happened before, has it?
The worst thing about Aldo not shaking O'Leary's hand was they were Irish team mates. Never liked Aldo after that either the bollix.
But then again according to Tony Cascarino O'Leary was disliked by most of the lads that played with him for Ireland. Still that night he was a Gunner and Aldo was just a mouser tw*t
.
Club before Country every time for me. Before my Irish colleagues on here jump on that I'll qualify it; I'm Irish born and bred. I'm proud of being Irish, but I had no choice in that. I chose to be an Arsenal fan as a 5 year old and stuck with them through the good and (many) bad times. So for me, I'll always cheer on the Paddies, but it will always be Arsenal in my heart.
I'm gonna do a poll in a thread called "CL or World Cup". Go have a look see...

sunny day. air of menace at the lane. usual stuff. the game - glorious football by arsenal. glorious. pires had a break to make it three at our end before i think he managed to lose possession when we really should have scored.
spuds fans may have thought they had denied us the title by scoring, or maybe they were just relieved at not being beaten, but once the final whistle went there was no doubt who were the happiest supporters and the ground emptied pretty quickly except for a few nutters.
we were held in ages, but did we care. after initial celbrations and then going to dressing room, the team returned and - fair play to the spuds stewards - they passed an inflatable prem trophy to the team. wenger came out and applauded the fans on his own. also martin tyler, on exiting the ground. walked past us, put his bag down and applauded the fans.
once outside, i nipped through a hole in a fence opposite the away end and basically acted like i wasn't a football fan by having a pretend conversation about domestic issues on my mobile whilst walking through swathes of spuds neanderthals awaiting gooners. i heard a lot of gooners did get whacked and was hardly surprised.
walked to seven sisters and got the tube to finsbury park from where i joined my crew in the bank of friendship. glorious sunny evening. great day.

My memories must be pretty much the same as yours, well the actual watching of the games anyway coz we watched it in the same pub. I remember they kicked us all out of The Gunners just after the game ended and called the fire brigade but as far as I recall there was now fire, think they just wanted an excuse to shut the pub and get rid of us, not sure why

After we got kicked out of the boozer I remember drunkenly buying one of those dodgy champions t-shirts from the stall over the road so I had something to wear at work the following morning
then after hanging round for a while, walking up to Finsbury Pk to continue the celebrations including the usual kicking the ball from the 12 Pins to the Blackstock Arms and back across the Seven Sisters Rd thing, a great tradition after a trophy won again
