Why Gallas? (10/8)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Why Gallas? (10/8)

Usual thread starter – Believe it or not I advocated this in either Gooner issue 174 or 175 at the tail end of last season, although I doubt Arsene read what I said.

Since then, Gallas’ words to the French press have not been the most diplomatic, but one thing I will say for the player. He cares enough to hate losing, and won’t meekly accept second best. So let’s see how it pans out.

He's the best man for the job. It's what every team, company, organisation strives for.

He loves winning, he can take on Jens (which might give our kids some confidence), he's an accomplished player and can give people a kick up the backside.

There is no downside. Just because a player is loyal or long-serving doesn't make them captain material (Henry was with us for 7 of his best years - that's pretty long-serving to me and he was a shit captain).

And as for not being the people's choice - well thank f**k we don't have a real say, otherwise god knows where we would be.

Arsene is correct as we needed a new captain even if Henry stayed
He needed a player at the back like Tony Adams who loves Arsenal & can give us advice to the team abit easier than a striker like Henry or Shearer
I'm happy that Willy got the armband as he always gives credit to the supporters something in our club few players are doing & he basicelley done it to those that traveled all of last season & at home matches includeing the Emirates cup
He had a fine pre season & despite mouthing Arsenal off as the papers say he got on with it & helped Arsenal to win two cups & lift them for the Gunners, at least he weren't Roy Keane mouthing off the fans
Maybe there's a few reasons such as he's French is why Gallas is captain but we need to get on with the football & hope the best man did get it

Why Gallas indeed? Am I right in saying that he has captain experience for France?
