AZ Alkmaar champions league

Post by REB »

AZ Alkmaar up next.
guess we should win both games against this lot and qualify early for last 16 for a change.

Well, we've often qualified for the Last 16 with a game or two to spare, but this season presents a great opportunity to flat-out win the group with two games to spare, allowing us to rest some high-profile players in games five and six, and - in theory - gaining us an 'easier' tie in the next round.

With that said, I'd be content with a point on Tuesday night. Seven points from the first three games (with two of those away from home) is a decent return, and we should still be able to top the group in first gear.

thats the expectation.

lets us rotate a little more in the other games, maybe give a few young players a run in the latter 2. All a boost for the league.

away 2-1
home 3-0

Qualifying for the Last 16 "early for the change" wouldn't be the case. We've qualified for that round with games to spare for the last four seasons.

Watching highlights of AZ against Steve McClaren's FC Twente. They seem decent going forward but defensively vulnerable. Bit like us, I suppose!!

Anyway's the reason for this post is that whilst watching the game, I came up with a little ditty that might - or might not - be sung by our lads going to the away leg.

Street Map in Holland,
You're just a street map in Holland,
Street map in Hol-land,
You're just a street map in Holland.

By the way, Twente won 3-2 with a last minute winner. 8)

They have only lost one of their last 30 something UEFA home games so would take a draw and then expect a win at our place. Course, we win then that would be great and we can make sure of qualification by winning our 4th game

I would go:
Mannone
Sagna-Gallas-Vermalen-Troare
Diaby-Cesc-Song
Nic-Van Persie-Rosicky
