As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Playing a game on the Sunday (vs. Liverpool) then again on the Wednesday (vs. Burnley) is nothing new, and pretty much the entire league had to do the same. Anyway, we're used to playing midweek in the CL & Premier League on the weekend, so it's just normal for us.
Wenger seems to be moaning about Hull having a free week, but once the FA Cup kicks in, and teams get knocked out, there will be all sorts of free weekends for some, and fixture congestion for others.... that's England for you, and always has been.
As for his moan at Wolves, for fielding a reserve team vs. ManUre... how is it any different to Arsenal screwing Standard Liege, by fielding a youth team in a CL game against Olympiakos?? (after all, it was a vital qualification match for Liege & Olympiakos)
I think Wenger is just moaning to take the focus away from his team... don't fall for it.
I agree it was pretty pointless moaning about Wolves but I offer you this scenario:-
Last game of the season and Wolves are in 17th position. Arsenal are at home to the 18th placed team with nothing to play for themselves. Their position is consolidated. So Wenger puts out the boys team who lose and as a result Wolves go down. You listen to the criticism we receive then and the sanctions that come our way for fielding a weakened team.
That is the hypocrisy of these situations.
It is a squad game today and the Manager should be free to pick any 11 players from within that squad. Provided they don't go outside it then the playing field is level and nobody can complain.
My fear though is that this could lead to an unofficial two division structure in the prem with teams in the bottom half concentrating on winning the games they think they can, and resting players when they think they cannot. So Wolves could field full strength teams against Wigan, West Ham, Portsmouth, etc and weaken them for Arsenal, Manure, The Chavs etc. Thus increasing their chances of survival and the cash that being a prem team offers.

My view of the wolves thing is not that it is something that should be punished by the letter of the law, it is just something that portrays them as a joke of a club.
The difference between us and Wolves in a non-legalistic sense is that we had/have an injury ravaged first-team squad and we were travelling to greece not fucking manchester. I dont expect Wolves to play to do us any favours, they should have been playing to do themselves a favour. The outcome of our match against olympiakos was irrelevant to us, which is not the case for Wolves who should be competing for every point not cherry-picking which games they are going to try in.
Besides, our second string is closer to the olympiakos first team then the wolves reserves are to manure

Was thinking the exact same thing this morning Spuddy. Sadly there's another 5 games after we host Wolves so can't see things being settled by then, unless we nosedive to midtable obscurity!
Yep, good old Arsene. I know Ferguson is also pissed off that the ridiculous fixture list has prevented Manure from winning 3 PL's in a row and... oh, hang on...
Only losers moan about fixture lists / refereeing decisions / players not being able to see each other cos they're wearing a grey kit. They do it to deflect attention away from themselves.
When did you ever hear Usain Bolt say "I'm a bit knackered today - can't we do it over 90 meters?" or Lance Armstrong say "those mountains are a bit steep, can we do a Tour de Holland instead?".
And I never once heard Ed Moses say "who put all those f**king hurdles in my way??"
I've always had a great deal of respect for Arsene but I'm getting so sick of his excuses.

Because Arsenal had won the group, and thus earnt the right to treat the game in any manner they wished. Wolves have earnt nothing, and so weren't in the same comfortable position in which they could rest players.
IMO, their throwing of the match at United was completely against the spirit of the game, and I think Wolves should be fined. The fact that their chairman hides behind excuses of "It's a squad game, we've injuries and McCarthy chose a team that he thought would be best prepared" indicates that he feels the need to cover-up the actual reason. Guilty conscience perhaps?

So Alex Ferguson is a loser then??
Is that a rhetorical question?
He's the most consistent winner in the history of English football, but when things don't go his way he looks to blame everything and anything else. Just like Arsene - only he hasn't got as many trophies as Ferguson.
He made the "grey shirt" comment after his team lost 3-1 at The Dell in April 1996. If Man U had won, Fergie wouldn't have needed to deflect blame onto anything else.
Was Wenger moaning about the fixture list in 2004 when we were the invincibles? So fucking what if Hull have had a free week.If we cant beat them on saturday it will have nothing to do with us playing a midweek game. He'll be blaming the cold weather next
