Returning players like a new signing

Wenger - Recovering players can give us boost

The prospect of new players may be a hot topic among Arsenal fans but the Arsenal manager is more concerned about getting his current players fit and available.

Arsène Wenger remains on the look-out for potential recruits while the January transfer window is open but, with the games coming thick and fast in the weeks to come, he is focused on trimming Arsenal's lengthy injury list.

Robin Van Persie, Kieran Gibbs, Johan Djourou, Nicklas Bendtner, Aaron Ramsey, Fran Merida, Samir Nasri and Jack Wilshere are all sidelined, leaving Wenger to juggle his remaining options against Bolton on Wednesday, at Stoke on Sunday, at Aston Villa next week and beyond.

And the Frenchman admits that transfer activity is taking a back seat while he works out who will return from injury - and when.

"We are not close to signing anybody at the moment and we are so focused on the game that we forget a little bit to speak about transfers," Wenger told Arsenal TV Online.

"The other thing I must say is we have so many players out that our talks are more focused on 'when is he back, when he is back?' and it looks like any player we can get back is like a transfer because we have not seen some players this season, like Walcott, like Bendtner.
"One of them has played three games, the other five games. But they can be fresh for the second part of the season and they can give us a big push."

Didnt you just know he would come out withe the old classics :banghead:

no suprise here... So wenger-like!

I don't feel confident at all going towards that hard spell awaiting us without a real striker.
Dudu or arshavin the midgets, or Bendner who hasn't played since 2 months? Mmmmm...

In my eyes we had a real chance of silverware this year. I believe Arsene just denied us that chance by not buying the minimum of one player we needed.

Gazidis said in the summer that our transfer policy priority was extending the contract of current playing staff. Unfortunately, I think we will have another year of just falling short because we were two-three players light.

i'm not sad as, again, i like our squad.

i'd still like to see a goalkeeper brought in, though.

Well he's still got about 10 days to put it right. We can only hope that there is something happening whatever else he says. But he's had all season to think about this. He's got the money - that isn't any longer questionable.

But if he really cannot find in the entire football world one player who would lift us beyond what we have already, then you could be forgiven for wanting to despair.

Whatever he does or doesn't do, the verdict on him - as far as I'm concerned - comes in loud and clear on May 23rd.

Been waiting for this statement from Arsene

At the beginning of the season I resigned myself to the thought of us not signing anyone and this confirms it.

Now I will hold on to hope because the reality is bleak.

Wenger is right though, getting those players back will be like having new players........new, inconsistent, under achieving players....... the type that that they were before they got injured!!

so you think that with a full squad injury-free we're still not good enough??

you think that almunia; sagna, gallas, vermaelen, clichy; song, fabregas, nasri; rosicky, rvp, arshavin is, as you say, an "inconsistent, under achieving" squad???

damn, you are a sad person!!!

TeeCee was refering to Bendtner and Walcott. Inconsistent and under-achieving is not unfair to these players

Why do you extend TeeCee's statement to something that is not there bG?

But that is the point BG!! We NEVER have a full fit squad. Ever. And we do not have top quality back up for RVP or Cesc or Tommy V and Gallas. We NEVER have all those key players you named fit at the same time. That's why we need a stronger squad. If Wenger would just strengthen in a few key positions we could win the PL but unfortunately we will fall just short (bit like you, ladyboy dwarf!  ) yet again. Is Wenger really this blind??!! :(

What team EVER has a totally injury free squad? NO ONE!!!!!! You have to have the players to cover the inevitable injuries of a hard season
