Looking for contributions to a book for Jens Lehmann!

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Looking for contributions to a book for Jens Lehmann!

Post by bookproject »

I hope this is not completely out of place but I thought I should at least try. :D

The guys from Mad Jens' fanpage (the unofficial one) are organising a project to put together a little good-bye present for him because as you all know, he will retire at the end of the season. They will collect contributions by fans (letters, drawings, funny, critical and so on), compile those into a book and have it printed professionally. One or two fans will give the book to him in person at the end of the season. I will do the design/layout and I thought it would be nice to have some Arsenal fans on board if anyone would be interested. Lehmann still loves Arsenal and hold its fans in high regard so I am sure it will mean something to him.

You can find all the details here.

I translated the FAQ into English as well (sorry for the bad English) and you can find them below. It was written for the fansite and not for footballfans exclusively so don't wonder about the love letter thing.
Would be great so have some of you take part!

So what is this about?

We would like to compile your works into a book for Jens Lehmann. In other words, you create one page for the book (how exactly this will work read below) and we put together a book with your entries, have it printed professionally and will present it to Jens Lehmann as a gift at the end of his last season.

Deadline for sending in your entires is March 31th 2010!

Who can participate?

Everybody of course! No matter if you are a little lad from the North pole or a 100-year old football fan from Germany. Jens Lehmann has fans all over the world and the more international and diverse the book turns out, the better.

How will the book look like?

The book will be in DIN4 format (29,7 cm x 21 cm), it will be printed on high-quality, heavy stock paper and bound in hardcover. Cover and content that will not be created by you will be professionally designed. Page count depends on the number of your entries. There will be exactly one book printed.

What can I contribute to the book?

There are pretty much no limits. Write something (maybe some goodbye letter, about a dear football memory related to Jens Lehmann, a story, a poem etc.), drawings, collages, photos, even a little handicraft work, a DVD or something you sewed, as long as it is flat enough to be integrated into the book.

In which language should I write?

German and/or English. It doesn’t matter if your German or English is not perfect! Whatever you can manage (if you mind we can still beta read your entry of course. I know my English is not perfect but we've got native speakers of both languages who can check your texts).

What do I need to pay special attention to?

Everybody will get one DIN4 page of the book. Please take care that your entry does not exceed these measurements.
If you want to write per hand, please try to write legible. You know how handwriting can be hard to make out sometimes. That does not count for little children who of course may write as scrawly as they like. Wink

May I sign with my real name?

That is entirely up to you. Full name, first name, nickname or anonymous..

How do I send my entry to you?

First of all you’ll need this e-mail address:

[email protected]

There are three ways your entry will end up in the book:

a) You scan your entry yourself and send it to the e-mail address above or you’ll send your entry by mail and the designer will scan it for you.
b) If you are not that creative and “onlyâ€

Probably but I doubt it would be a book that Almunia would enjoy reading.

Spudmasher, oh dear, Almunia does not seem to be too popular at the moment. I feel a bit sorry for the guy.

LeGinge: On with the thinking cap! :D I always get the impression that Jens misses Arsenal and English football in general a lot. He never says a bad word about the club despite some not so pleasant things happening in his last season. He's a gent off the pitch.
And thanks for the nice comment on my English.

Maybe a dumb question but did you have a song about him? Something funny and not containing too many x-rated words? Would probably be nice to have that in the book as well.

The biggest compliment I could give Lehmann is that he made us forget about missing David Seaman. Although his 'playground' antics would sometimes get on my nerves, his organisation of the defence, commanding of his penalty area and shot-stopping was as good as anything we've had in my time. It's a real pity his Arsenal career ended as it did, because he deserved better (and we the fans deserved better than Almunia!!!).

One thing is for certain, Jens will always be remembered and revered by gooners everywhere as an Arsenal legend and a member of The Invincibles!!! 8)

You should write that to him. :D Our you guys could team up, write sort of a "forum letter", sign it and I can put it into the book. I'm sure it would mean a lot to him to know most fans hold him in good memory.

I'll never forget how mental I went when Jens did this;

I've not got much on at the moment, I might actually put something together in Photoshop, Jens is a legend.
