Your poll's a bit duplicious as the thread title is "can we win the league" but when you actually go in to the poll it's "WILL we win the league" and I think they're two different questions cos I can't say we will be champs but yet I think it's possible we CAN win the title and it'll probably come down to how lucky we are with injuries and suspensions!
Even Fab admitted in his interview prior to the Pompey game, when asked about the huddle, that we have a small squad, but went on to add that, that was what had brought about the curent close knit family nature of the club, and that it has given them belief and they will fight for each other!

I think we certainly can. It'll be a tough old slog and I'm not expecting to do it, butI think we have a very very good chance. On our day I beleive we are the best team in the country, so a mixture of good luck on the injuries front, and an addition the ruthlessness we were missing last season and I think we have every chance of going the whole way.
What a great underdog story it would be if we did it.

My answer was no. This is why.
Let's not get carried away, chaps. We have played four games so far this season. All of which were against teams who you'd be pretty pissed off if we failed to beat and three of which were at home. I know, I know, we can only beat who is put in front of us, and although that is true, it is still way too early to get carried away. 38 games is a long, long time and I think we all forget that. If, and that is a big IF (so big, I put it in capital letters) we stay injury free all season then we've got a chance, but that's all. A chance. For me, we're still not strong enough with a full strength squad.
However, it's important to remember that we are only a few injuries away from being completely up shit creek. It's been discussed before here, but imagine this if you will, going in to our crunch few weeks in March/April, RvP and Eduardo are struck down with injury. We'd be fucked. The same goes for our defense and our wings (not so much the centre). We're two injuries away from being completely buggered in a position, and given the rate at which our players seem to get injured, I think this is something to be really concerned about.
The bottom line is this; we have a very talented group of players who are capable of giving anyone a game. On our day, we are good enough to beat anyone in the league. But our squad is still young and it lacks depth. It really, really lacks depth. I think to expect them to stay fit and consistent for 38 games is a bit much. I'm not going to get in to who we should or shouldn't have bought because that has been done to death, but I think we're a long way off being a championship winning team.
So, to be clear. My answer is 'no' to both questions; can we win the league and will we win the league?
What I would say though is that we will learn a lot about our young team in our next game against, what's their name again?!

Wasn't there a thread about 'winning the league' a little while back?
I agree with Tony Saunders. We have got the results so far that most of us would have expected to, even the 'worriers' like me. We have exactly the same number of points (10) from these fixtures as we did last season, albeit via a slightly different route (home win against Portsmouth where last season we drew, balanced by Blackburn away draw whereas last year we won). Remember, thus far we have played three of our four games at home and our game in hand won't be an easy one (Newcastle away).
The truth is that we will probably have a better and more realistic idea of our prospects in all competitions come the end of the year. Until then, I will stick with my initial feelings that we will do well to finish in the top four and have good cup runs. However, I would be more than happy if the lads end up proving me wrong.
It's been a promising start, but the real battles are still ahead of us in the coming few months. Please lads, be happy with the results/how we have performed so far, but lets not get too carried away!!

Have top say I'm with my eloquent chum Saunders on this!
Yep its been a great start and yes I'm certainly more positive than I was during the summer.
However ae Big Tone rightly points out we have only done what we would have expected so far! Don't wanna tempt fare but we could have the reverse of last season.....beat the teams we should but lose to the other "big 4" members!
Like I said I am 100% more positive than before but win the league....not that posiitive!
By the way Saunders when are we having the hat eating ceremony?
