Twitchy - Tiny Totts Closing In On Arsenal

Post by GoonerRez »

Bacon Face is at it again, not long ago he was suggesting they could finish above us!
Tottenham Hotspur Boss Harry Redknapp: We Are Closing In On Arsenal
North London gap narrowing fast...

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp believes it will not be long before his team overtake bitter rivals Arsenal in the Premier League.

The Spurs gaffer thinks that Arsene Wenger's side are a good bet to win this season's title, but still thinks it will not be long before his team are ahead of the Gunners.

"They have an excellent youth set-up, a conveyor belt of young players coming through," said Redknapp on Thursday.

"The gap is closing. We're trying to turn it around but it's not easy. There's not a million miles between the teams.

"I don't think that there will be much of a gap at the end of the season.

"Arsenal can win the title. They are a very well run club and the manager has done a good job."

Spurs are in the hunt for a fourth-placed finish, and currently sit just a point behind Manchester City in fifth.

It is Roberto Mancini's side that Redknapp sees as the main threat to his team's Champions League ambitions.

"We're right in there and have got a great chance," he said. "Manchester City are the team to watch out for."

What he says is perfectly fair on all counts.

Sorry 'arry bashers - but if you read the full interview, it is ! Because in the edition I read, he never talked about overtaking us. He said we could well win the League but that the final gap between the two sides - in terms of points and position - would not be as great as before.

He also made the point that English players of any quality are an increasing rarity and that whilest England had a good chance to win the WC in 2010 by the time 2014 comes around we'll be struggling - again.

Seemed quite insightful to me !

I read his interview, he's still being unrealistic.... claiming that the gap is shrinking all the time? Bollocks is it! Spurs had their chance to finish above us 4 years ago, and SHAT themselves! Ever since then the gap has got bigger. We're 12 points ahead of them now; hardly a minute gap they look like breaching at any time.

Their first choice centrebacks are constantly injured, their midfield "powerhouse" wants away after only 9 months at the club... they're hardly in an amazing position to go forward.

My favourite quote was about how young players who were brought through the club are always more loyal and determined than bought in youngsters - realistically, who would you prefer in your midfield - Cesc Fabregas, or David Bentley.

The gap won't have closed by the time he drives them into bankruptcy and leaves for a new job ... :barscarf:
