The 1st goal conceded tonight!

Post by wlchuccc »

Just come back from the game, was right behind the goal, thought that was AL's fault (sorry I am biased), but then exchanged the txt with someone. They thought it's not his fault!! Then I just watched the highlights more than 5 times, no way that it's AL's fault!!

1. He is not under any challenge. Why didn't he try to keep the ball rather than punch it?!!

2. With no one challenging on him, his punch is weak!!

3. Why he was still out of the position after the punch, did anyone touch him at all? Obviously not!! He even lied down for a second, FFS!!

4. The shot was right in the middle. When I saw it at the stadium, I didn't think that it's powerful shot. Even when I watched the highlights just now, I do think that a semi-professional keeper will have saved it!!

I just have enough with AL. I don't like to "boo" our players. But I think we need to do something to let AL know our unhappiness against him. After the goal, I saw his expression that he seems like to blame the defenders. FFS, it's your fucking fault. I really doubt that he thinks he is SHIT. Maybe he is still a world-class goalie!!!

With nothing to win this season (very likely), I would like to see Mannone start playing for us now. FFS, he saved us a game then he made one mistake in the next game, then he is on the bench for the whole game. While AL keeps making school-boy mistakes all the time, he starts in all our games. Only AW knows!!

I am totally gutted, not only because this ends our title hope, but also because we lost to those SHIT *word censored*. Speechless :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I believe he should have caught it. Almunia used to attempt to catch the ball up to the season before last when he has tried to punch everything, I assume this will be down to the goalkeeping coach.

The only defence I can say for the goal, when he was trying to set himself he bumps into Sagna and that's probably why the ball went in but yes he should have caught the cross and got up quicker.

Disagreed!!
Sagna was on his left. Any goalie should move to the middle which is to the right after the punch.

Again, I don't care how you have been coached as long as you have done your job. If you have watched AL in the warm-up training before the match, most of the time he couldn't punch the ball probably like tonight :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I've been watching Arsenal keepers since 1977.
The great Pat Jennings is still my all-time favourite Arsenal player.

Almunia is, without doubt, the most Basil Fawlty keeper we've had in that time.
His decision-making is appalling and he saps the confidence of our defenders.
You can see they have little faith in him.

He has failed to achieve any sort of consistency since he replaced Lehmann.
And this from a guy who was banging on about how he should be the England keeper? Good grief! :banghead:

I'd have far more respect for Almunia if he just shut his mouth and concentrated on becoming a decent keeper.
But he hasn't.

Almunia and Adebayor are the only Arsenal players I've bagged in 30+ years as a Gooner.

As far as I'm concerned, guarding the Arsenal goal is one of the most important jobs in the world.
He's been given every opportunity, but Almunia is just not up to the job.

For God's sake, let us get a proper keeper.
We might just have nicked the title this year with a real #1.

Not only that, I believe any team likes to play us if AL is in goal...Seriously if AW doesn't buy in a goalie this summer, he lost all my faith in him. If you look at Utd, why they are still chasing the title becos they have Van Dar Sar. If you look at Chelsea, why they have not won the league yet becos Cech is no longer reliable

Almunia's punch out was GAY, (on a par with a Tim Henman fist pump) it barely went 10 yards, and YES, he should have caught the bastard ball, in saying that, he then let's the subsquent shot got through his HANDS, had he stayed upright on the shot, it hits him in the upper body area.

WENGER, you got rid of Lehmann for far fewer mistakes, than this clown has made, ever since his debut against Manure several seasons back.

PLEASE, PLEASE get rid of him NOW, he makes me sick just seeing him in The Arsenal shirt, and you make matters worse by making him captain.

I agree with wlchuccc particularly point 2.

Hold your arms out at length. Go on!
What's longer open hands for a catch or clench fist for a punch?

If the box is crowded and you can make the catch punch it and take some men with you.
But as wlchuccc says he was unchallenged. I'm not denying it was a good goal pretty fluky but good. But it was easy preventable.

I also believe he was indirectly at fault for the 2nd.
Okay it was Tweety responsibility to check his marker.
Sagna (has been pointed out prior to this game often plays people onside) was playing bale onside. Difficult as the ball was that side and was watching play.
But Clichy, also playing Bale onside, should have been talking to Tweety to push up and warn him. Clich was looking down the line.
Also the one person that really should be talking is Al!

So not directly Al's fault as several were to blame but that communication from the GK has been a major problem. Apart from the obvious errors Almunia's lack of communication has cost us several times this season.

The punch wasn't a problem, limboing under that freak shot was the issue. Look at Almunia when the ball comes in - arching his back almost in a yoga move. If he stood upright, the ball would have hit him in the face.

I agree but he simply shouldn't have punched it in the first place.

Having now seen it on the new, it was a very sweet stike by the young Spud. Good tekkers.

Tbh the second goal annoys me more than the first. Yes Almunia should have caught it, but that was one hell of a strike, and yes I do believe Sagna hindered Almunia when the shot came in. The second goal is just attorcious

yep, it WAS the punch that is the issue, or the decision to punch when no-one is near him, under no pressure. Bad-decision making which is now all too-common from al. Sadly, our defending doesn't make it easy for anyone.

I hate that phrase. That godforsaken piece of shit Saturday morning TV Soccer AM has a lot to answer for there.
