At the end of the day though we need to step back and look at the bigger picture.

I believe there is mitigating circumstances as to why we havent one anything for that period. I'll be short and sweet and I'll list a few reason's.

- Injuries

- We have moved to a new stadium. Look at how teams like Southampton, Manchester City and Sunderland fared whilst moving.

- Injuries

- Chelsea have, during the last five years, had the best team in their history with the help of Roman Abramovich. And spending an absolute fortune that we cant compete with.

- Barcelona for the last couple of years have had the best season's in their history which is some statement when you think about it.

- Both the above at a time when we have to cut our clth accordingly

- Team's were spending like there was no tomorrow but the short term gain : Pompey winning The FA Cup even United's big spending will lead to long term pain.

- In the case of United though, love him or hate him - when he quits people will realise how good Ferguson is. 11 League title's and 2 Champions League's and others.

- With the execption of Real Madrid, the team's that spent the most money last Summer have gone the furthest in this years Champons League.

- We have been Runners-Up in the UEFA Champions League, the Football League Cup and The FA Community Shield in that period.

- If you look at were we have finished in the Premier League/Premiership, we have either finished in an appropriate position all considered (injuries and bad luck) or overachieved.

All that is true but he can't keep living off his past glories and IMO is running out of chances.

At least we have a few excuses. As you say, Chelsea have had the best team in their history over the last few years and unbelievable spending power and yet they've won fuck all. If they don't win the league this season (please god that Liverpool beat them!!) then won't that be 4 years without a MAJOR trophy for the chavs....?

Are you serious? They've won the league, FA and League Cup twice each in that period. They're the current FA cup holders and look pretty certain to retain it and are pretty strong favourites for the league.

I think what Gouldy is getting at (i MAY BE WRONG) Is that the money launderer only really wants the BIG prize...the CL...the FA Cup has been done, the League Cup is two bob and the Premiership is nice...,.but Roman wants the ultimate prize.......and his grubby little paws and his grubby money has not bought him what he has bought elsewhere.....

Will Arsene's project work

Post by Nos89 »

Whilst injuries to key players like Cesc, RvP, Gallas, Arshavin have had a major impact on the the title challenge, little has been said about injuries to the key players behind them like Ramsey, Djourou, Gibbs and to a certain extent NB52. Ramsey would've certainly played in Cesc's absence and would've had a major impact in the games at Barca, Spuds and Wigan. Djourou would've stepped into Gallas' shoes and Gibbs would've done well to push Clichy to play better or even replace him in the first team. It seems to be forgotten that for 3 of the 5 months RvP was absence so was NB52, and he has shown the sort of impact he has had since his return.
So, the squad is strong enough (goalkeepers aside) it didn't help that we lost key support players. The project will work once we address the keeper problem.

well up to now its obviously to make as much money for Arsenal as he possibly can.
Im hoping he forgets that in the close season,or next season will be NO different to this one.

NO

We will be hearing the same excuses next season,Injuries,New stadium. The truth is when we get injuries the back up players are not good enough,We dont have a keeper. And no team that has to play Almunia/Flappy :banghead: Silvestre :banghead: ,Eboue :banghead: ,Denilson :banghead: ,Diaby :banghead: and Bendtner :banghead: will EVER win anything. And if Cesc leaves.....................

ok IMO the key will be the summer signings - the biggest problem was squad depth, when we had the injruies we had no decent cover wheras the other teams did.

I am certainly thinking there are signings in the pipeline

agree with keeper bit: average al is ok for a couple of games but the pressure of a title tilt seems too much for him, he is and should be a number 2.

I think eboue and bentdner are players to keep, i think most big teams would be happy with them in thier squad as backup

I cant say bentdner been much worse than kalou / ngog / bubbatoss i think the problem in that department is eddy; he looked good as new start of the season, then lost his edge - B52, walcott and vela (who never plays) aint too bad for 3rd / 4th choice while they mature.

I think we need another good to world class striker (with pace) to replace eddy, another CB and a box to box defensive minded midfielder taller than a match box.

We could probably unload the likes of diaby, denilson, vela (play him or sell him he is a full international ffs) and use the wages to buy a proper wide player untill wilshire is ready.

unload flappy, get a decent keeper and have average al as a number 2 while sczhezny and mannone fight for number 3 spot

i dont think that would be too far off assuming our better players want to stay.

Exactly, we aren't actually that far away, it's been said before that we need just three- or four players to add a bit of strength in depth (and a new 'keeper) and we can make a sustained challenge for the league.
