Lay off
Wenger is a fvckin legend and the threads people are putting on here undermining his achievments are a disgrace to our club.
i'm not saying he has no shortcomings but he deserves more respect from us & who is there to replace him ?
be careful what you wish for

We all love and appreciate what Mr Wenger has DONE for our club, but now it's a case of what IS he going to do for our great club.Green Kit 82 wrote:Wenger is a fvckin legend and the threads people are putting on here undermining his achievments are a disgrace to our club.

History doesn't win the league.
History doesn't win the Champions League.
Wenger has had his day. I love the man for what he achieved in the past but he has consistantly failed to address the obvious failings in the side year after year.
Everything comes to an end. We won things before him. We'll win things after him.

We've gone 5 years without a trophy and the respect we hold for AW is the reason he still has the job. Had he been anywhere else he would've been asked to leave after a couple of years of nothing.
This is the end of his 5-year experiment and it hasn't worked. What fans are concerned about is his great memory will become tarnished by his stubborness to admit things are not going to plan.
I for one do not want to see AW going down the same route as Brian Clough.

Before I write anything else, may I just say that I do NOT want Wenger to leave.Green Kit 82 wrote:who is there to replace him ?
However....
It does bug me a little when people say "who can replace him?" as if to suggest he's irreplaceable or that his achievements couldn't be bettered by anyone else.
I mean, are Wenger's achievements over the last 4 years so great that no one could have done better?... really?

What it says is that Wenger was unable to keep up with the top teams, but managed to keep us above teams like Everton, Sp*rs and Villa. Didn't we expect that anyway???

Oh, and yes I'm aware I've left out Citeh. They were always going to struggle to overtake us this season, as they are just putting a team together. Next season might be more interesting.
So our league positions have been ok, but not great - so what about the cups?? hmm.... not much to shout about there either!

So, what's so irreplaceable about what he's achieved recently?
We've conceded 41 goals this season in the league and 37 the season before!! - could no manager improve on that???

Look, I'm all for keeping Arsene out of loyalty and the fact that I feel Arsene and us are all sharing the same adventure (good and bad) and, you know what.... it wouldn't be the same without him!!

I mean, are Wenger's achievements over the last 4 years so great that no one could have done better?... really?4th, 3rd, 4th, 3rd... it's good but not that amazing, is it???
What it says is that Wenger was unable to keep up with the top teams, but managed to keep us above teams like Everton, Sp*rs and Villa. Didn't we expect that anyway???Everton and Villa are hardly rich, and can't compete with us for players or wages. Whereas Sp*rs have been mismanaged for years! - so yes, well done Arsene for keeping us above these teams, but it's hardly overachieving in my opinion!

So our league positions have been ok, but not great - so what about the cups?? hmm.... not much to shout about there either!.... humiliated in the CL in the last 2 seasons by ManUre and Barca... beaten the year before by Liverpool. The FA Cup has seen little success for us, either. Could no manager have done better than Arsene in the cups?? - if anything, Arsenal have shown we are good in the cups UNTIL we face a top team, then we're pretty much out.... so that's hardly overachieving, is it?

I'm a big fan of Arsene (a rose tinter even....?) but sometimes it does feel like we're sharing HIS adventure not necessarily the "same adventure"....if you know what I mean....!
And I don't feel close to Arsene the man. Not in the same way as I once felt about George and his magic hat....!

Yeah, the anti-AW sentiment also surprises me.
I'd been following Arsenal for 17 years when Arsene joined us in '96.
And I could never - in my wildest dreams - have imagined the success and trophies he would bring us.
That's why the past five years have been so disappointing; because we had become accustomed to success.
But the thing is, rosetinter or realist, none of us have any idea of the realities and parameters Arsene is dealing with.
We can speculate and criticise away, but no one has a clue what is really going on in the inner sanctum.
We've invested five years in setting ourselves up as one of the world's true super clubs (horrible phrase, but hey ho, there you go).
We're the third most valuable club in the world and it's only going to get better for us in the next few years.
Clubs like Liverpool and the spuds are desperate for new stadiums, but they're probably both 20 years away from that dream.
We've achieved that and still been competitive.
I enjoy the different opinions and controversies here, but I reckon anyone who thinks they really know what's happening behind the scenes at Arsenal is delusional.
Righteo. Rant over. As you were.

I respect what he did for us in the past, but the last five years have been an utter disgrace and he's been the main reason for that. At any other big club he would've gotten the boot moons ago.
No one can replace him? Yeah, just like no one could replace GG, or Bertie Mee, or Herbert Chapman....
With that "Wenger-is-god" attitude from some of our fans we'll be going nowhere, in fact we'll slip further and be overtaken by the spuds before you know it.
