France World Cup squad

Post by projoe »

Patrick Vieira and Karim Benzema have been left out of France's initial 30-man squad for the World Cup in South Africa.

Vieira's displays for Manchester City since arriving from Inter Milan in January have not been enough to impress Les Blues coach Raymond Domenech.

Benzema has struggled for regular action with Real Madrid following his summer switch and has also missed out on selection.

Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri has been overlooked, but his Emirates Stadium team-mates Gael Clichy, William Gallas, Abou Diaby and Bacary Sagna are all included.

Did Eboue pick this squad as one of his 'hillarious pranks?'

Actually happy that Nasri does not go.

His form has been inconsistent, and he needs to step it up a notch to be a good rather than an above average player.
His broken leg cannot have helped though, so a good pre season should be a bonus.

Vieira left out.

Squad:

Cedric Carrasso (Bordeaux), Mickael Landreau (Lille), Hugo Lloris (Lyon), Steve Mandanda (Marseille);

Eric Abidal (Barcelona), Gael Clichy (Arsenal), Patrice Evra (Manchester United), Rod Fanni (Rennes), William Gallas (Arsenal), Marc Planus (Bordeaux), Adil Rami (Lille), Anthony Reveillere (Lyon), Bacary Sagna (Arsenal),

Sebastien Squillaci (Sevilla); Abou Diaby (Arsenal), Alou Diarra (Bordeaux), Lassana Diarra (Real Madrid), Yoann Gourcuff (Bordeaux), Yann M'Vila (Rennes), Florent Malouda (Chelsea), Jeremy Toulalan (Lyon), Hatem Ben Arfa (Marseille),;

Nicolas Anelka (Chelsea), Jimmy Briand (Rennes), Djibril Cisse (Panathinaikos), Andre-Pierre Gignac (Toulouse), Sidney Govou (Lyon), Thierry Henry (Barcelona), Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich), Mathieu Valbuena (Marseille).

Diaby doesn't deserve to go.. TBH, Nasri hasn't done himself much better this season.

Bloody hell, France must be good if Nasri & Benzema can't even get in a squad of 30!!!!  - hmm, and I thought they were supposed to be on the decline?! :?

Ribery-----------Anelka----------Nasri

---------Malouda-------Flamini
-------------------Diarra

Evra------Abidal--------Gallas----Sagna

------------------Lloris

Subs: Benzema, Toulalan, Henry, Clichy, Mexes and that ex-Milan playmaker at Bordeaux.

That team would win the world cup! 8)

Gourcuff. If we traded him with diaby, bought benzema, a decent keeper and centre back...then I might give AW another chance

Flamini's absence is incredible considering the season he had for us 2007 - 2008.

He is earning more now than with us, and Milan is a nice place to live if you have cash.

But his career?

Downhill since he left us.

I haven't forgiven him for subing Nasri twice in one match during the euros. How do you play lesser teams with 2 defensive midfielders who have no creative bone in them.

FGS HE IS TAKING DIABY!

Raymond Domenech's last world cup i reckon . I have always liked their squad, their players and i reckon if they hire BLANC or Wenger  they have every chance of winning something. Sorry to say i but ben arfa did have a better season than nasri .

Following from G88ner's post, here is a team composed from players left out the 30 man squad, not brilliant but not bad either, midfield looks decent enough. Imagine it added to with the seven players who do not make the cut.

------------------Benzema----------Wiltord--------------------

----------Remy -------Vieira-----------Nasri-----------Piquionne------

Flamini------------Escude--------Mexes-------Kaboul------

----------------------------Coupet-------------------------

Subs: Itandje ,Traore, Bonnart, Silvestre, E Cisse, Gouffran, Gomis.

I dont think so considering he was on the bench most of the season and started fewer games than Nasri who was out for some parts this season.

Just because Marseille won the league doesn't mean he played a major part in it.

Nasri scored 3goals in the CL while Bn Afra dint even start.

Doesn't Dominech pick his team based on players Starsigns??

Diaby is shit, I don't think he'd be in my 20 man Arsenal squad, let alone in the final cut for a team which is supposed to be one of the world cup favourites.

Dominech seems to be on a one-man mission to crush French football, and no-one at the FFF appears to give a shit. It's really weird.... surly L'equipe are giving him as much vitriol as the Sun gave Taylor and McClaren??

I'm surprised that Clichy is in the squad.... can't be too many international teams who pick three left backs.
