Arsenal Reserves In Dublin (FAO IRISH GOONERS)
Arsenal Reserves In Dublin (FAO IRISH GOONERS)
This is old news but I searched back a few pages and can’t find a post on it.
Arsenal and Manure will be represented by a reserve team in a tournament in Dublin between 15-22 August.
I was wondering are any of the Irish lads planning to go, if so maybe we could organise for a few or even a load of us to meet up for one of the games involving the Arsenal reserves.

from one of the london lads hahahaha
in there's ticket details and dates
Following on its European exploits, and facing into a tough few weeks of domestic action, Ireland's premier football club will now face the Reserve squads of English Premiership giants Arsenal and Manchester United at Tallaght Stadium.
PLATINUM ONE has today (Tuesday 27th July) confirmed that (subject to sanction) it will stage The PLATINUM ONE Challenge - a three team tournament featuring Shamrock Rovers FC, Arsenal Reserves and Manchester United Reserves between August 15th - August 22nd at Tallaght Stadium in Dublin.
Details of the matches are as follows:
* Sunday 15th August, 7.00pm Shamrock Rovers v Manchester United Reserves
* Thursday 19th August, 7.45pm Manchester United Reserves v Arsenal Reserves
* Sunday 22nd August, 3.00pm Shamrock Rovers v Arsenal Reserves
The Manchester United and Arsenal squads will feature a host of the respective club's up and coming stars. Former United idol and now Manchester United Reserve Team Manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, said that the new event promised to be an early season boost for players who are pushing for 1st team recognition. "Our current first team contains many players like Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, John O'Shea, Darren Fletcher, Jonny Evans, Darron Gibson and Wes Brown who have come through the ranks and some of the talent on show in Dublin will hopefully be in Sir Alex's mind in the near future. For these players to get additional competitive action early in the season is welcome".
Head of Youth Development at Arsenal, Liam Brady said: "Arsenal's policies in player development are fundamental to the success of the club. Once players get to reserve level they have to prove that they are capable of moving into the First Team. An event like The PLATINUM ONE Challenge is important in that respect. To play Shamrock Rovers, whose European exploits have been so impressive, and our old rivals Manchester United in Dublin will both be special occasions. We will have some very talented young players on show and I am looking forward to seeing how they perform in this tournament."
Shamrock Rovers Manager, Michael O'Neill said: "By the end of August Shamrock Rovers will have hosted Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester United and Arsenal at Tallaght Stadium in little over a year. This is a progressive football club and again working with PLATINUM ONE on this event, our board is making sure that we are behaving as the leading club in Ireland should. The opportunity to see some of the Manchester United and Arsenal stars of the future at Tallaght will attract new football fans to our home stadium and we aim to impress them both on and off the pitch so that they return to watch Shamrock Rovers on future occasions"
Eamon McLoughlin, Head of Football at PLATINUM ONE said: "We have been working on this concept for a long time and we are delighted that it has been confirmed. This is a unique opportunity for people to see some of the household names of the future play competitively in Dublin. We are deliberately pricing the event to make it as accessible as possible for football fans and families to see top quality players in a competitive environment. We would like to thank Shamrock Rovers, Manchester United, Arsenal, the FAI and South Dublin County Council for their co-operation and commitment to the staging of this event".
Ticket Prices for the all-seated event are as follows:

I'll be going to the Thursday game against the filth. Can't make the 22nd as I'm playing in a charity match that afternoon.
Word of advice to any non-Dubs going; be careful in Tallaght (it's a dangerous kip) so don't drink in the pubs out there (especially with your big culchy "mug me" accents), instead drink in the city centre.
And don't wear Arsenal colours if going alone. There have been incidents of "patriotic" fans (

In fairness, Dublin is a great city, but like all major cities it has it's bad areas and it's share of nasty geebags. The problem with Dublin is the way the city is laid out - you have nice areas right slap up against really bad areas. This even comes down to street level. We have a pretty bad resurgent heroin problem too and the drug gangs don't hesitate to shoot.
There are some great pubs, clubs, cafes and restaraunts here but you do have to be careful.
