just a quick question for londoners

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

just a quick question for londoners

mates, how much cash a week does a guy need to live in london (like for example, kensington and chelsea or westminster)? by that i mean simple cheap acommodation, food and transportation. and the odd pint of ale, of course.

thanks!

Ah man those areas are really expensive... somewhere out like down where I live is a lot cheaper.. If you want to be close to the centre it's better to go east than west... what are you thinking of in terms of work?

BG, those two boroughs you mentionned are the 2 most expensive in the whole of London.

North, East and West London are best serviced by the tube, South of the river there isn't as many tube stations. It gets cheaper the further you go out in rent really, but obviously travel costs increase.

If you want to use public transport you can get a travelcard, for a week, month, year etc.

Food and stuff you can get pretty cheap from supermarkets but I dont know how the prices relate to Brazil.

http://www.findaproperty.com/listcounti ... ountyid=11 - this website will give you a rough idea of prices and how far from the stations.

its not a case of how much does it cost. You need to first figure out how much you will have coming in and and work out where you can afford to stay from there.

some things are pretty static like a zone 1-3 travel card then work out how much you are prepared to pay for rent and what you get for it and then where and you'll see definate patterns emerging.

let me explain this further then, i'm considering taking a marketing course for a year (maybe two), in an institute located in bayswater. to be honest i had no idea that that was an expensive part of london, hence why i asked about places around that

the course itself is cheap, and i have all the documents needed to get a student visa for the period, so i can even work part-time with it. courses start next march, exactly when i was going to do my trip, but then i realised that i could actually turn 3 months traveling into a year or two, and actually live in london for a while to see how things go (and then travel to europe on the vacations). and obviously, follow arsenal for a season or two, which would be the most spetacular thing yet to happen in my life...

so, on tube distance to bayswater (and not much more than an hour or so distance), how much would money would i need, more or less :?: :?:

Come live in Putney, it can be cheap round here - how much are you looking for? To be fair on Gumtree there are places near there that are cheap...

Right next to Bayswater tube...

185 per week though but that should be alright with savings and a part-time job?

It depends what you want really BG, a room or a flat. I'd say stick to North of the river, much easier to get around, more places which are easier to get to etc.

If you are a student, you can get discounted travel which is good.

yeah, that's what i'm trying to figure out. i really don't know what a 20hour-a-week job can get me, but on my own savings i can pay for a place like that plus other expenses for like half a year or a little more, but then will i find a part time job that pays for all that? 185 a week seems a lot to my brazilian eyes

are things a lot cheaper as i go away from central london?
