Most people think Peter Kenyon is a greedy, self-regarding, egotistical, superficial, pretentious, talentless, slimey, two-faced, Abramovich-loving, creepy wanker, who knows the price of everything in football but the value of nothing.
But not me, at least not since I read an interview with him in the current edition of World Soccer.
The man is hugely misunderstood. In fact, he is a comic genius. How else can you describe someone who, in an interview given a little before Mourinho was sacked, gives answers like these:
Q: Is the target of reaching financial break-even by 2010 still achieveable?
A: The 2010 target was never a firm statement, it was more an intention that we would reach that objective on or around that date. ... Break-even in 2010 or 2011 is not off the agenda.
Q: Why the influx of so many more foreign owners lately?
A: Of course, the "fit-and-proper-person" tests have to be carried out properly.
Q: How is the working relationship now between Abramovich and Jose Mourinho?
A: Very good. ... Right now everyone is back to where they need to be.
Q: What is the future of Stamford Bridge?
A: We're operating on a 42,000 capacity and selling out for all our games. We've said all along that to get to 55,000 would be good... .
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Some people may even think Kenyon's being serious!
Peter Kenyon, a man misunderstood
Very good Mr Kenyon
What's funnier though is the Chelsea fans singing songs slagging him off!! Obviously, they will never blame Mourinho for being Abramovich's patsy, and they won't slag off Abramovich himself because while they might be fucked off with him - without him, they would've folded under massive debt.
So, Kenyon's the bid bad wolf
