Why no mention of Denton

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Why no mention of Denton

Post by Ruby »

I did not know the man but after Sunday's game against Sunderland I was moved by the tribute shown to this man by friends and fellow fans, I am aware that he was no saint but I find it strange that such a man who obviously commanded such respect was ignored by the Gooner mag. If I had known in advance that there was this planned gathering for Denton before the game I certainly would have lent my support. RIP Mr Denton a true Gooner

Didn't know of the man myself, but heard lots of nice things said of him by other fans ... seems to be a proper arsenal legend ..

gooner.ed, any chance of an article by onlinegooner ?

ruby,, there was no mention of denton in the gooner cos the gooner was printed before he died,, on every arsenal site and including this one there is tributes to denton,, and the turn out on sun for him shows how much every gooner felt for him and his family

i found out about the march and tribute the night before the game - very late - and by text. in fairness i think the people that knew the man were all informed. that wouldcertainly seem to be the case going by the numbers on the march - 600-700 people reckoned a mate of mine who was on it. his friends have been in touch and there will be a piece in the next issue about him, that goes on sale at the bolton game.

there have been some threads about 'the bear' in the 'general chat' section of the forum. as for something on the main part of the site, i haven't been sent anything to post. not knowing the man i did not feel qualified to write anything about him, as i feel that kind of thing is done better by those who knew him well.

having said that, the site that has had most about him is, appropriately, the herd's website. and by all accounts they have done a very good job.

so that's the situation from this end.
