Prizefighter- What you think?

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

Prizefighter- What you think?

Post by northbankbren »

After watching tonights show, i was left with the feeling that this format is although entertaining, it really scrapping the barrel of the uk talent. Tonight saw sprott win, so the way the uk heavyweight division has gone he'll prob fight the winner of haye/harrison

When this was first introduced i liked it, but its turned out to be the last chance saloon tourney. Its no super six, but with dirrel dropping out then six isnt very accurate is it.

Poor show tonight, but the next 3 months of boxing holds quite a few good fights, just no pacman/money which we all wanted :banghead:

I think this is the fourth Heavyweight version, so it is tough on the promoters to find new fighters.
It is good for fighters and fans though, being cheapish, and in a recession am pleased the boxers can make some cash.

Do think they should do some different weights, or a UK vs USA version.

Shame about Dirrell, hope his health recovers.

Spot on with the price, and i think if it is to work it needs to be a monthly format, and it should always be at the york hall!!!! Make it the home of the event.

Your rite quartz about the price, but apart from the heavyweights, the booking has been fairly average. Its a take on stallones us show the contender, but as a one night tournament. If it was billed and promoted in the same was as say the ufc's ultimate fighter it could become massive, until then the masses wont pay attention.

But then tournaments are a big risk as the super six shows.

Prize fighter has become shit - the first couple were good, but i agree they are just using old aged boxers, soon they will be getting Benn and Eubank back in the ring

need to get back to the old gypo way of fighting not the queensbury rules

i want to 8 hard bastards bashing the shit out of each other for 3 rounds - last nights was a joke

Bren

George Groves fights soon against James Toney - is he still the real deal

Although I've always been a big boxing fan, haven't watched any of the series because I just can't take it seriously.

You'll see fights and fighters of equivalent quality outside most pubs and clubs in the UK any Friday or Saturday night!!

radford agrees with i like pleb and too finds this format hard to take, although he does not frequent such places that have fights outside

In which case I retract my previous statement and want to confirm that I think Prize Fighter is the best thing to have happened to the sport, and indeed television, since colour programmes were invented!! 8)

I think he technically has what it takes, the one thing that worries me is as of yet he hasnt taken a really good punch, so not 100% sure what his chin is like. He should beat toney, then hopefully he'll fight "destined to fail" in december.

Groves is fighting an African called James Obede Toney, not the same James Toney who was American former multi-weight champion.

He's quite experianced as well, so should be a test, although not the undefeated challeneger he promised. I'll be at the york hall for this one. :barscarf:
