Emirates - 'controlled' drinking zone

Emirates - 'controlled' drinking zone

Post by jaybee »

I sent this to ISLTN BC:-

"I attend Arsenal home games, but have noticed an increased presence from Police around the 'controlled drinking zone' on match days, where it now seems that Police are approaching ANY supporters seen with a drink (even if the supporter is quite clearly on their own and giving absolutely no indication that they are casuing a nuisance to anyone).

Has there been a change to the document of 6.3.2009 (sent to residents) ?

As this document indicates that the CDZ doesn't mean drinking on the street is banned, but that it would mean that the police can take action where drinkers are causing a nuisance.

Surely it would only then be in such instances (where it is deemed a drinker/s is a nuisance), that a drink would then be ordered to be handed over? and if refused police could issue a £40 Fixed Penalty Notice or indeed arrested and could face a maximum fine of £500?

My point is i have been approached on the last 2 home matches while sitting down on my own reading my programme with a single can, not bothering anyone. A police officer on each occasion has order me to either drink up quickly or hand over the can. I then said quite calmly that i will try to drink quickly but i can't drink too quickly or i will give myself indegestion. I again had to fit to either option and decided to drink the can - hence didn't enjoy it and had the enevitable indegestion for the rest of the day.

Please clarify this new law? Your comments appreciated
"

Obviously those who don't get a can before the game won't surely comment - but those that used to - how do you feel about this?

What i am getting at is in our own towns at weekends i have never seen a Police officer confiscate a can from a member of the public (even on a Sat night) unless they are deemed to be causing a nuisance.

Once again WE (Football supporters) are treated like dogs/2nd class citizens - now on our own patch (it's bad enough when going away). Isn't Britain meant to be a democracy?

I was drinking in the pub before the Wham game and it was getting close to kick off so me and my mate started pacing it to the ground with our drinks and we got told to sink it or bin it, I was thinking wtf?! I'm just minding my own business walking. :?

I've been caught out by this twice now this season myself. Neither time causing a nuisance to anyone. I attend most matches with my Dad and we always meet up a bit before the game and I have a couple of cans while he enjoys a mini wine bottle. On the 1st occasion I was presented with the same neck it or hand it over option. Second time the copper simply checked I didn't have any more cans (despite I'm sure being able to see the other 2 I had on the floor). Both times it was after a van load of police had driven by (my dad is a crap lookout - yeah I know I didn't see them either  ). I felt on both occasions that the officers concerned felt this was a fairly pointless way for them to be spending their time but the whole thing is bloody annoying and I will be interested to see what kind of response you get.

Love it..... yeah i had the same problem at the West Ham game. Had half a can of fosters left walking past Arsenal tube towards the ground when a copper said "you will have to dispose of the can pal" I was like since when..... I told him i only had half a can left and he said ok then.... turned the corner when another copper said " you will have to get rid of that can now sir"... so i said yes i just spoke to the other officer 1 minute ago and told him i only had half a can left and will bin it in a couple of minutes. So now the copper infront of me was like "i'm sorry sir but i can't let you carry on walking with an alcoholic drink"... so now i'm telling him that there is a bin by the jerk chicken stool and i would have finished the can by then can you not just let me walk to that as i've now only got a quarter of a can left.... he was having none of it so like yourself rushed the remainder of the can which did not go down to well before a portion of chicken and rice

2 Questions;

1.) The 2nd officer, when he said that to you, didnt you want to empty the can on his head?

2.) Is that jerk chicken stall nice?

This is totally pointless, but I understand the club gave ground on this issue a few weeks ago. My father was at both West Brom and Brum and was basically told the same thing, just walking to the ground with the remains of his pint.....!!!!

Well worded letter. Hope the club isn't getting too fascist about drinking. I suppose they're trying to crack down in the face of a slow rebirth of hooliganism, but cops do have a tendency to take it too far.

Seeing as I always go from Finsbury Park to Arsenal, via the Mini-Donuts stall, the Curry in a Hurry tent, and Fat Harry's hot dog stall, not quite on my route...

I meant where have you been as in the forum, not your route.

I stopped going to the mini donut stall, they taste of lemon and that woman needs to crack a smile. The new donut stall looks tempting but haven't tried it yet. The curry stall is nice, often stop there on the way back. Not too sure about all the burger vans, I am not sure they are 100% beef

Burger vans are awful. Samosas at curry stall very good but really spicy.. they don't taste of lemon??? I mean the one with the crappy "tuck shop" soft drinks.. the woman is nice to me but I always make conversation etc....
