Should be sell Gilberto in January

Post by Goonanana »

It seems that the speculation surround Gilbertos possible exit is gettting fever pitch. I've heard figures of around 5-8 million floating about. Would you want to sell him in Janaury and if so at what price?

i figure with aw's quest for a young team that anyone over 30 is in danger of been sold,, i feel he will go and that diarra was bought as his long term replacement
but do i want him to be sold then no as our squad is small enough

I think he will go but I would rather he stayed as a squad player. Unfortunately I don't think he will be content with that. I can't imagine that he is too happy losing the captaincy and his place in the first 11.

I think we will do well without Gilberto, but why sell him? Do we need the money? - don`t think so.
The season is long, and players will be out with injury. Then Gilberto will be a good man to set in. And the fact that he can play both midfield and defence, makes him a good squad-member.
But on the other side - if he wants to leave - i agree we should sell him.

Looking forward to saturday :D New game - new three points :D

In my opinion we need to keep him. Quality player, loves the shirt and one who has been there and done it.
For all the quality these young players have, very few have any silverware to show for it. Gilberto is still one of the most important players at the club and we need all the experience we need if we're to make a serious title charge..

Keep him! he was one of our best players last year and he would have been this year if he came back the same time as the rest of the team. Also the longer we have him the further down the pecking order Song is! 8)

I would def. keep him as the squad is too small already, whether he is happy being a squad player im not sure so he might be pushing for a move. I hope not

I can see him going if we get a decent offer i.e £5m plus.He wants first team football and with the likes of the Flamster,Diaby and Denilson about he is not going to get it.Also our great start to the season without him hasn"t helped his cause. The signs that the end maybe near came when Wenger ignored him for the captaincy.

Keep him till the summer at least - we need his experience.

No. We're not in desperate need of cash, his wages are not extortionate and his experience is invaluable to us. Also, given the fact that Kolo is off to the ANC and that he can fill in at centre back, I'm guessing that in one way or another, we're going to be needing him pretty soon.

I agree we shouldn't sell him, especially as the chance on us buying an experienced replacement who can play CB and CM are slim to none!

However, I can't see the man who captain Brazil into winning the Copa America is going to be happy sitting on the bench behind the Flanimal :?

Weird how things change.

I see Bert's value to the squad more as CB cover than CM, where we have Cesc, Flanimal, Diaby, Denilson, Song

His experience is also essential. I'd rather keep, although we will probably end up selling him in the summer for 3 million.

Even coming off the bench, he is worth it as he clams things down when our defence is jittery. Honestly, I think he will win back his place soon (I suspect for the Liverpool and Man U games), he is one of the best holding players in the world and he will prove vital in the games ahead. Don't sell him unless we get an absurd offer like £20 million and Masch

I don't rate his technical skills too highly (too many stray passes) but I'd keep him as a squad player, he has a calming influence on the younger players and does a lot of good work, man marking, tracking oppo players and covering other more forward thinking mid fielders.

Also, the squad is light on experience, which he has a lot of...
