Re: Safe standing bid launched in Parliament
He's my local MP at the moment. I emailed Foster back before the election and he said that he was committed to trying to bring safe standing him so it's good that he's kept his promise on this issue. Shame he might betray another promise and vote to raise tuition fee, the mupetDan_85 wrote:Great news! Do everything you can to throw your support behind this...

will not happen.
This was raised nationally a couple of years ago and a thread appeared on here with details of how to lobby your MP. I did this and the response back was that the whole committee felt that stadiums were a safer and more 'family friendly' place as a result of the restrictions. The clubs will also not support this return to any form of standing as the type of 'client' they attract today are more likely to spend money inside the stadium than those 'old school' types like myself that only give Arsenal the cost of my ticket. Apart from that all money spent on the day is spent outside the ground.
I'd like nothing more than to stand up at football grounds but the sad truth is that all seater stadia are here to stay and no amount of whining is going to change that. They are now as institutionalised as speed cameras and cheap immigrant labour.

Sad, but very true...SPUDMASHER wrote:will not happen.

if this issue became a vote winner for the poli's something would be done. if enough people write to bring it to the attention of every member in parliment it would at least be spoken about. and that is all we can do.
If someone wrote a template
email/letter that we could copy paste and send it would get more traction!!

I am writing to register my support for the Safe Standing Bill launched by your colleague Don Foster MP for Bath. I hope you will be lending your support to help turn this bill into law and right some of the wrongs heaped on football fans for the past 20 years.
Simples but effective, ill post any reply i get here.

Agree with Spudmasher - this will NEVER happen at Highbury Mk II.
Safe standing areas would be a good idea and would actually make the other areas safer and nicer for the Tarquins and Jemimas.
But - the only way that politicians listen these days is if people mobilise themselves like the students have done and I can't see us doing anything like that. Don't agree with any of the student violence (silly bastards) but have to admire the way they have won concessions that would never have come their way if they'd sat back and done nothing.
