Post by benthegooner »

I now live in sheffield as im a student, and walking past starbucks I saw Richard Wright. I looked it up and he is now on the bench of sheffield united. It just shows how arsenal goalkeepers end up now.

I can't help thinking that he was one of those signings that clubs sometimes make without discussing with the Manager first.... Richard Wright, Francis Jeffers?

Nothing wrong with your spelling at all. And don't worry, there's far worse spelling on here from people who are just lazy bastards. And Boomer.

But as a student, shouldn't you be smashing up starbucks rather than walking past it?

Richard Wright just seemed to be the keeper who never looked comfortable at our club. Similar to Ben Foster at utd, just not meant to be.

Spot on MK, Wenger asked for Dudek from Feyenoord he came over fee was agreed did the medical then out of the blue Dein goes off and signs wright from the Hillwoods old pals at Ipswich .
Feyenoord threatened to sue us as we had agreed it all,in the end he went to the mickys.

Allegedly there was a lot of kick back on that deal. I heard, abt $2.5 million and not a George Graham in sight to take the blame !

People have to remember that before we bought him Wright was a fantastic young goalkeeper.

It only goes to show when a dream move for a young player goes wrong it can fuck your career sideways.

Anyone remember his debut, or at least of his first games away at Derby when we won 2-0 with two Thierry goals.

He was immaculate as was Matthew Upson on the day, I think the Gooner even went with a future of Arsenal title on its front cover with a pic of these two.

I'll never forget his performance when we lost 4-2 at Highbury to Charlton, I still have nightmares about it.

He was never THAT bad, and I think he panicked to leave for Everton. He was a good young keeper, a real shame.

he was a top keeper when arsenal bought him, tipped by many to be the future england keeper, i was delighted at the time to see good young english talent been bought by wenger. he done ok at arsenal and i dont know what happened to him but he wasnt that bad for us to go down as one of the worse signing by wenger of which there has been plenty.

People talk about the Charlton game but what about the injury time goal he threw in at the Swamp.Sol's comeback to hell game.I would willingly have throttled him myself after that.I would put Wright in the same bracket as Flappy and Average Al.Shite

And didnt he give TWO penalties away on his England debut
