Arsenal 7-0 Slavia (My Match report+ratings)

I once heard the term "You can only beat who is in front of you". Well for most Gooners that line fits perfectly into the agenda of tonights seven-nil win against Slavia. Before the game Le Boss said that he only wants one birthday present and that the team can still raise their game and even though they have done so tonight, they need to raise it again and again. But for tonight most presenters tonight have said Arsenal really did play the beautiful game.

The game kicked off with a good high pace and it was in which the manor it would remain for most of the ninety minutes. Alex Hleb breaking down the wing and getting out of position in which three Slavia players were crowded around, to pass the ball into the feet of Cesc to drill the ball into the far corner, all this in the first five minutes. Shortly afterwards the lead was doubled. Alex Hleb"s rebound hitting off the toe of Hubacek on the way through for a goal that ev entually went down as an og from the UEFA panel.

Then came the moment that made every Gooner proud. A dodgey clearance from Slavia keeper Martin Vaniak finding fans favorite Theo Walcott to knock the ball into the empty net for a goal that he took well. The half time whistle came leave the fans happy. Shortly after the second half kicked off things were up and running again. Some great, crisp two-touch passing ending up with a great, maybe even Thierry Henry like finish from the young English man Theo Walcott for his second of the night and a lot would say the goal of the night.

Alex Hleb then claimed a goal which really was his, getting into the box and finishing calmly into the corner. After that, for most it was game over. A triple substitute made by the Boss seeing Emmanual Adebayor, Alex Hleb (who was man of the match for me) and Mathieu Flamini for Gilberto Siva, Nickalas Bendtner and Tomas Rosicky who came on to play for his former rival club.

Then cam the second contender for goal of the night. More great one and two touch passing in the end of some good team work finding Cesc Fabregas to put away his second of the night. Then the night was capped off by Arsenal equaling the all-time record of the Champions League record. Nickalas Bendtner showing great determination to get through and finish to make it seven-nil.

So overall a great night for the club. But this standard needs to be remained and even if that is not possible for every game then we need to keep getting wins. Now the team seems to be positive and we need to play this well at Anfield.

Ya we equaled the Champo League record with Juventus for scoring seven goals.

The most important thing is that we keep doing what we are doing.

With our lot continuing to do so well, and perhaps having got over the slight dip vs Sunderland and Bolton, and with Man U really hitting their form now, the game on 3 November is building up to be massive! Let's get into the mood by putting Liverpool to the sword this w/e, and hopefully the kids can take out those tossers, Sheff Utd, next week. And then the big one!

I think I'm getting a bit over-excited. I've been reading too much of Gus describing last night's game on other threads....

theo did well
but lets be realistic b4 the gift in the first half he'd had a cross and a couple of impressive runs leading to nothing
his second was excellent finishing

but 9s ?? come on - Cesc and Hleb hardly put a foot wrong all night and where always on the ball
surely they both contributed considerably more

imo Hleb motm with 9 and cesc 8 - 8.5
Theo an impressive 7.5 - 8tops

HJD you have forgot Walcotts pass for Fabregas's 2nd goal. also Theo would of had a hat trick if it wasnt for a great save from the keeper

HJD - as with all things, you have to put it in to context. For instance, Almunia and Clichy both getting sevens in my ratings was not because they both contributed the same amount to the game, but given the context of their performance and what was expected of them, that both earned sevens in my eyes.

I gave Theo a nine because of the fact that 1) his performance was very, very good, 2) because of the massive pressure that he was under, 3) because of the fact that he is still just 18 years old and 4) because it was only his second game in that position for us (I think). When you take all of that in to consideration, I don't see how you can say his performance was anything short of outstanding.

Obviously he isn't the finished article, and I think the Liverpool and United games might come a bit too soon for him, but let's not take anything away from the lad; he was very good last night.

THAT game was just great to watch everyone just played so well, finally Theo has his goals and hopefully will improve he was given his chance up front and he has took it, maybe RvP's injury was a blessing in disguise.

i have done a match report for goonersword blog

I understand your reasoning re Walcott but RvP's injury is not a blessing in disguise for anyone - RvP is our best player up front and we need him available as much as possible.

I didn't mean it like that but Theo has his first goals because of it...what i ment was something good came out of it at least.
But i want RvP back as soon as.
