Arsenal Stadium Tours - Feedback?

Post by SamiS »

Finally got round to booking a stadium tour for my brother, arranging for us to go on earliest free date for both of us! Thursday 17th February.

Now what available is a Regular Tours at 10am or Legends tour by Kenny Sansom at 12pm! Swaying towards the legends as he was captain in 1987 and many are bringing the idea that that was like now, also for the whole "legends bit" would of preferred Charlie George but guess not as only "oh Kenny Kenny" is available on that day, my dad remembers him as a player as well...

What is the difference between the 2 tours? Anything that great on it? Which legend did you have? What was it like!!!

Please let me know all you can before I book, also nice to know, many thanks!!

i'd go with the legends tour mate for sure!

i did one with charlie george and did another a couple of weeks later with Kenny. What was good about it was that both tours were very different, both Charlie and Kenny have their own insights into the stadium and the club.

i have to say i really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anybody as its a great way to see the stadium and all that goes on behind the scenes and its also great to hear and talk with an Arsenal legend about all things Arsenal both past and present. Both Kenny and Charlie are absolute gents.

Just an aside about Charlie George, the man lives and breathes Arsenal even today.I was talking to one of the regular tour guides and they told me that Charlie spends around 6 days a week at the Emirates even when he's not working-loves being around the place apparently.

if one were to describe charlie and kenny, charlie is most definitley a rose tinter and kenny a realist!

Do it with Kenny much better having a legend telling you about Arsenal, the normal tour is ok but without the history of the old stadium it's just a nice walk round a very nice stadium(changing rooms, directors box and players/managers seats down on the pitch).

What does the tour entail?

Anything that amazing? Thanks for your help Jacky Wilshere and STG

How big are the tour groups? What happens on it? All I imagined was walking through the stadium with some Chinese (sorry for stereotype) and Eastern Europeans taking pictures on massive cameras!!!

both times i went on the legends tour i dont think there were any ''tourists''.You'll get alot of old school fans who appreciate the fact that they are meeting a legend from Arsenals past. The group size i suppose is around 20-25 but can be smaller depending on how many have booked.

The thing i enjoyed most about the tour was getting to chat to the legends like they were just any normal fan.Me and my mate stayed at the front of the group and were just talking football with them for all the tour, probably pissed off the rest of the group. And in fairness they''ll give you an opinion on anything you ask them about the club and do not just ''toe the arsenal party line'' -Kenny especially is pretty outspoken,he wasnt much impressed with Clichy(this was in November).

You'll enjoy it mate and definitely worth doing once at least!

I did the tour with Perry Groves . He was very funny and provided many insights . I would guess their were around 20 people , most of whom were English ( if that matters to you ) . Naturally he had many good things to say about Wenger and the Club in general but he wasn't afraid to criticize the transfer policy ( or lack thereof ) , also he openly voiced his disgust at our inability to defend ( maybe he was more vocal than usual seeing as the tour was a few days after the nightmare 2-3 against the Spuds at the Emirates .

Anyways overall it was a great experience and certainly worth the money .

Enjoyed the tours. Have done 3 (or is it 4) all with Charlie G. Groups have ranged from 12 to 40. I think 40 is the max amount. Overall good and well worth doing. Would have liked to have seen Club Level and Box level just to see how the other half live. Tours stick to dressing room, pitchside and media centre.

Perhaps they could vary the tours slightly and I might go again.

Are you going to ask for a de-tour to the box office? Where you can see the production process of your trade Sami?

I was a cheapskate and paying for the kids as well so did the standard tour at Highbury and the Grove. Great to see behind the scenes, but the guys that take you around got on my tits. They talk about Arsenal as if its THEIR club when I know full well that its MY fucking club!!!!! Ok for a tourist....but irritating when in all likelihood I've seen Arsenal more times than they have!

With that in mind, if I did it again then it would definitely be the legends tour!

All the legends tours are good in their own way:

Charlie lives and breathes it, Sammy is one of the funniest blokes I've ever had the pleasure of meeting, Eddie once you get past the glaswegian accent is an absolute diamond, Radders is very sharp and funny, Perry speaks his mind and just loves the club, and Kenny has some great tales to tell.

I just wonder when these guys retire who will be taking the next legends tours I can't quite see Patrick Vieira returning to take them :D

The non legends tours can be good fun as well and tend to be more from a supporters angle rather than a players one.
