KHAN V MC CLOSKEY
KHAN V MC CLOSKEY
Amir Khan is due to fight Paul Mc Closkey in Manchester on 16th April.
Mc Closkey is 31 years old so this is his only and last chance at the big time.
He is a tricky opponent with a big punch and a good jaw.
He is from Dungiven which is just down the road from where I live, and many here and indeed further afield reckon he will beat Khan.
One thing for sure he will bring a huge following from here and across the water, and it certainly won't feel like a "home fight" for Khan.
What do the "boxing experts" on here think his chances are.

Will be a night in the pub for me, a few lads I work with are going, I'm not a big boxing fan tbh, though I will definitely make a point of watching this one, especially as I can't stand that arrogant *word censored* Khan.enjibenji wrote:Would love to see mc closkey win a world title sid, but just cant see it happning against khan. thinking about going over myself for this and supporting the lad to be honest, you gonna make the trip over !?goonersid wrote:Amir Khan is due to fight Paul Mc Closkey in Manchester on 16th April.

I have seen McCloskey fight once, so I cannot give anything like an expert opinion.
From what I saw, he is strong, has good work rate, and aggressive.
I also saw a fighter who is still at European level, and stands too square on.
Khan will have speed advantage and I think this will mean Khan wins a clear points victory.
That said, it is an opportune time to fight Khan, who has just split from his conditioning coach, Alex Ariza, over a messy round of accusations of theft from a hotel room.
Make no mistake that Ariza has had a large input into Khan's success, and it leaves a interesting question mark over Khan's focus for the fight.

I've seen his last two fights, and although a good boxer he isnt in Khans league. As quartz said at european level he is up there, but the step up to world grade is massive.
The rankings dont really tell the correct story as McCloskey in my opinion isnt top 10.
Khan will be too strong and quick for McCloskey and I cant see this going the distance.
This is a smart fight for the Khan camp they wanted a home fight, against a lesser opponent after such a tough fight against maidana, and they've picked the rite man. An undefeated European champion, who is bound to bring in plenty of fans for the fight.
Alex Ariza leaving camp will raise questions but im sure Roach will have Amir prepared correctly. Quartz, where did you hear the hotel theft story from? I read it was over money owed to Ariza for the maidana fight.

I've really warmed to Khan since his prescott defeat. He knew he had fucked up, and was letting things destract him from the sport and was getting cocky, so made the correct steps going over to la to train with roach, but also get himself away from all the distractions. He's been very humble since then in my opinion.
In boxing yor always going to get people trying to take advantage, Im not sure his dad is the best person to be getting involved on the buisness side though as he has zero experiance, and now for this fight Hatton has got in on the cash cow too. But I suppose you have to let certain people take charge of the out of the ring business. Just check out pacmans entourage its in the hundreds not dozens.

Ariza claimed that people around Khan's camp (insinuating it was Khan's family), went into Ariza's hotel room, and stole contracts Ariza had made with Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan.northbankbren wrote:
